ObituaryThomas R. Stephens transitioned to a better place while biking with the one he loved on September 17, 2021. Tom lived an extraordinary life and will be missed beyond measure. He was a beautiful soul who loved with his whole heart. Among his exceptional attributes were his philanthropy, sense of adventure, artistry, and his competitive and mischievous nature.
He was born in Nowata, Oklahoma and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His educational accomplishments include: Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from University of Colorado Boulder, Master's Degree from Princeton University in Public Affairs and Urban Planning, and Law Degree from Harvard University. Tom was a consummate attorney, author, wine enthusiast and sports fan.
He met his husband and best friend, Todd Enders, in 1985. For 36 years, they lived a full life skiing, biking, and traveling. In fact, they biked on six continents. They were also patrons of the Colorado Symphony and Denver Center for Performing Arts as well as loyal fans at CU football games.
Tom started practicing law in 1984 at Kirkland and Ellis. However, the majority of his career was as a partner at Bartlit Beck in the corporate division. His business associates and clients describe him as: generous, eternally positive, humble, and a trusted advisor.
There are many who hope to be reunited with Tom including his husband, Todd, his feline family Koz and Otto, Todd's family members: Lance Enders; Laurie and Tim MacArthur; Bob Enders; Marlena, Tucker, and Hunter Ro Hinchliffe; and Mitch and Katie MacArthur as well as Tom's loving and devoted immediate family members: his brother, Bill, and sister-in-law, Theresa, along with nieces and nephews: Tania, Josh, Asher, and Portia Hattig; and Greg Stephens.
The family gratefully declines flowers: however, memorial donations may be made to Lambda Legal Defense Fund or the American Heart Association.
