Tom, the son of Darrell and Mildred (Mongar) Hansel, was born July 26, 1943, in Sioux City. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High in 1962. Throughout his career, Tom worked at Terrace Park Dairy, Roberts Dairy, retiring from Chesterman Bottling Company as a supervisor, in 2008.
Tom was united in marriage to Sherry (Mozak) in 1986 in Sioux City.
Tom was a simple, remarkable man who lived life to the fullest! To know him was to love him!
Tom was most passionate about his family. . . especially his grandkids. They were the light of his heart. Spending time with family, especially over the holidays, watching his beloved Hawkeyes, sitting around the kitchen table reminiscing with family and friends, pontoon cruises, traveling to visit his kids and grandkids, playing pool, and giving valuable life advise to his grandkids, brought him immense joy. He loved playing golf with his brothers Rob and Jerry, keeping his yard in pristine condition, playing with his beloved pups and grand pups, and yes, even traveling across the country to maybe buy a boat with his buddy Doug. Tom loved being at home with his adored Missy and beloved wife of 38 years, mastering the art of jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, watching TV, and relaxing by the pool. Tom was a humble, kind, hardworking man who always put others first. He left a footprint on many hearts and will forever be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherry of Sioux City, IA; daughter Chrissey (Rich) Eveland of Omaha, NE and son Bret (Amy) Eckstein of Prosper, TX; beloved grandkids: Cory (Kelsey) Derochie of Lenexa, KS, Conner (Paola) Sweet of Dallas, TX, Hannah (Brandon) Fabac of Katy, TX, Jesse Eckstein of Dallas, TX and Zach Eckstein of Fayetteville, AR; great grandsons: Hayes Thomas, Asher Thomas and Griffin Jay Derochie; brother Rob (Vicki) Hansel of Sioux City, IA, sisters: Molly Wetzbarger of Sioux City, IA and Kim Bryne of Omaha, NE; sister-in-Law Debbie (Dick) Pratt of Bella Vista, AR; daughters: Lisa Hansel and Suzy Barnett and son Mark Hansel all of Idaho; daughter Jody Hansel of California; and several nephews; nieces; and friends.
