Thomas “Tom” Charles Vahl of Pearson passed away suddenly on February 28, 2026 at the age of 58, surrounded by family.
Tom was born on June 6, 1967 in Antigo to Thomas A. and the late Kay (Turney) Vahl. On June 7, 1997, he was united in marriage to Teresa Spencer. She survives. Tom worked in logging as a skid operator.
Tom, also known as Cheerio, loved the outdoors. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, camping, swimming, and just being in the woods. He also enjoyed playing pool, softball, and golf. He was known for his great sense of humor and being a family man. He attended all his grandson’s sporting events and band concerts. He loved making his friends and family laugh, especially if it was some friendly teasing with his siblings. He loved being there for people and considered everyone a friend.
In addition to his wife Teresa, Tom is survived by children, Stephanie Durante (BJ Wolff), Thomas E. Vahl (Alicia Miszewski), and Kristin Vahl (Jeremy Jacak); grandchildren, Caleb Schmidt-Vahl and Regan Miszewski; siblings, Scott Vahl (Amy McCorkle), Jamie Reynolds, and Samantha (Dave) Schafer; childhood friend Louis (Connie) Bath; father, Thomas A. (Mona); brothers-in-law, Arthur Spencer, Dale (Lynette) Spencer, Dennis Spencer, and Steve Spencer; sister-in-law Teresa Hunter; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his mother Kay, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Edna and Charles Turney and Lois Gehr; mother and father-in-law, Rose Kwick and Donny Kernin; son, Travis Durante, and cousin, Robert Tullberg.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
