COLONIE - Thomas "Tom" J. Traegler, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at home.
Tom was born in Newark, N.J. and raised in Albany. He attended and graduated from Albany Public Schools. Tom served in the Navy on a Destroyer Escort in the North Atlantic during the Korean War. In 1960, he moved to Colonie alongside his wife to raise their family. He retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1988 as a supervisor. Tom enjoyed spending time with his friends at camp on Lake Champlain. He was a longtime member of the German-American Club and an avid bowler well into his 70's.
He was the beloved husband of 66 years to the late Anastasia H. Traegler; loving father of Mary T. Bell, Jean Guilbeault (Leon), and Elaine Ellington (Jesse); cherished grandfather of Mallory Bell and Kaitlyn Bell (Kate), Lisa Rice, Adam Rice (Meredith) and Jason Rice, Jesse Ellington IV (Valerie) and Katherine Ellington; and adoring great-grandfather of Lucas Bell, Addison and Gavin Cesternino, Mason and Lincoln Rice, and Violet Bass. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Planz (Peter), and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Andrea Conyers and Vicente "Vinnie" Suarez for the care, kindness and compassion shown to our father in his last months.
The funeral will be in the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer on Tuesday, August 1, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, July 31, from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
