Professor Emeritus Thomas (Tom) C. Tritschler died Sept. 8, 2023, comforted by family in St. Joseph's Health Centre, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Tom married Annabelle (Anne) Hempen, who grew up in Quincy; Anne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Phi Beta Kappa (PBK), Knox College. Anne and Tom bore and raised four children together: Gretchen (Ken Cook) of Tucson Arizona, Martin (Kara) of Thornton Colorado, Moira, and Andrew Tritschler of Guelph Ontario Canada. Tom's survivors include: his children (spouses), granddaughter, Annalee Tritschler, and a brother, Charles A. Tritschler, Purdue Professor Emeritus West Lafayette Indiana, and extended family.
Tom was born July 20, 1932, in Evanston IL, to Alexander Moran and Gertrude Shields Tritschler. Tom became a professor at University of Guelph Ontario Canada, and headed the art department before his retirement. Tom lettered in track at Evanston High and Brown University, running competitively in his age class. He served in the US Army, stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland. Tom earned a PhD in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from the University of Chicago.
Tom will be buried alongside his already deceased relatives at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois, including: his wife, Anne, his in-laws, Fred Hempen and Bernice Mayersick Hempen, and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hempen. On Saturday, October 21, 2023, there will be a small, private memorial service for Tom at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Tom will in inurned at Greenmount Cemetery.
