In Loving Memory of Thomas Joseph Turner (Turtureci)
January 14,1936 - October 8, 2025
Thomas Joseph Turner, affectionately known as Tom, Dad, Papa T or Popsie, passed away peacefully at home in Austin, Texas on October 8, 2025. He was 89 years old.
Born on January 14, 1936, in San Francisco, California, Tom was the cherished son of Evelyn Ryan and Vincent Turtureci. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Patricia, and their five children: Joseph, Kevin, Kathleen Fortin (Roman), Robert (Lesli), and Maureen Christen (Paul). He was a proud and loving grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Tom's life was defined by faith, family, and service. He graduated from St. Ignatius Jesuit High School in San Francisco and went on to attend the University of California, Davis, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. During his time at UC Davis, he served as president of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a role he took great pride in. Following graduation, Tom served honorably as a Captain in the United States Army Veterinary Corps.
He spent 39 years practicing veterinary medicine, the majority of that time in Ventura, California, where he and Patricia raised their five children. His dedication to his work, his clients, and their beloved pets was a hallmark of his career.
Tom was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and lived it actively. He was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Assumption in Ventura, CA; Saint Benedicts in Johns Creek, GA; and Saint John Neumann in Austin, TX. He was a community leader, serving as President of the Ventura Downtown Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his service. After retiring and moving to Atlanta, and later Austin, he spent over two decades volunteering with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, where his heart for the poor and vulnerable guided his efforts to support those in need.
Tom instilled in his family a profound sense of duty toward their faith, family, their communities, their country, and to God. His impact and example are reflected in the paths his children and grandchildren have chosen: through marriage and family life, military service, as first responders and as medical professionals.
Tom's legacy is one of faith, love, and service. He will be remembered for his steady wisdom, his generosity, his humility, his musical gifts, his devotion to his family and friends, and his lifelong commitment to living a life centered on Christ.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 14th at 10 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in West Lake Hills, Texas, with inurnment to follow mass in the church columbarium. A reception will be held afterward at the church.
