Thomas "Tom" A. Vander Weide entered into rest peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Bobette "Bobbie" Vander Weide, nee Eilert; devoted father of Thomas "Tom" Vander Weide Jr, Kris (Joe) Davis, and Jason Vander Weide; cherished grandpa of Danielle (Ben) Bryant, Ashley, Tanner, and Reese; blessed great-grandpa of Asa; dear brother of Kay (Ron) West and the late Terry Vander Weide; and treasured uncle of Jon, Scott (Debbie), and Dan (Angela). Tom is also survived by many other dear relatives and great friends.
Tom was born in summer 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to delighted parents Adrian and Ruth, nee Gazan, Vander Weide, and would serve in the United States Coast Guard for four years. Throughout his life, Tom was known for his friendly and humorous demeanor. Known to never meet a stranger, Tom worked in the police department before finding his calling in automobile sales. With Tom's gift of being able to connect instantly with people, his reputation spread as an honest and trustworthy person and friend.
Outside of work, Tom loved sports. He was an avid golfer, coached his children's baseball and soccer teams in their youth, and continued to show up for and cheer on his grandchildren at their games. Tom's immersion in the game brought him much enjoyment and peace.
Above all, Tom is remembered for the devotion and love he had for his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. The beloved patriarch kept his family close and smiling until his final days, bringing them laughter and memories that will be cherished for years to come. May he rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Faith Oakville Church or Friendship Village Hospice (12563 Village Circle Drive, Sunset Hills, MO 63127, Attention Sue Champion) in Tom's honor.
Tom's funeral will be held on Tuesday March 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Oakville. A cemetery ceremony with Military Honors and subsequent inurnment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
