Thomas S. "Butch" Verone, 69, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Born on April 16, 1955, in the same city he loved and never left, Thomas's life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the value of service to one's community & country. Tom was a veteran, serving his country in the US Navy.
Thomas, affectionately known as Butch to his friends and family, was a man whose generosity and loving nature were the hallmarks of his character. He dedicated many years of his life to his work as a union electrician, retiring from IBEW Union Local #363 in Harriman, NY. His commitment to quality and camaraderie on the job was recognized by all who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional achievements, Thomas was an active member and past officer of the American Legion John Livingstone Post #1466 in Poughkeepsie, where his contributions were both valued and deeply appreciated. His involvement with the Legion exemplified his unwavering support for fellow veterans and his belief in the importance of community service.
Thomas's life was enriched by a close-knit family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his beloved brother, Robert J. Verone; loving sister, Vicki L. Tobias; and a cherished nephew, Barry T. Tobias. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his guidance and love shaped their lives in countless ways. While Thomas was predeceased by his parents and his nephew Michael Robert Tobias, the memories they shared will continue to be celebrated by those who knew and loved him.
In his leisure, Butch could often be found riding his Harley Davidson or boating on the Hudson River. He loved bar-b-ques and clambakes where he could often be found recounting stories of his experiences and the lessons they taught him. He was well known for his captivating storytelling.
Relatives and friends may call from 1 pm to 3pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., 4365 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY 12538. Military honors by the US Navy will begin at 3pm. Donations may be made to the American Legion John Livingstone Post #1466, 50 Legion Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
Thomas's legacy is one of love, service, and the joy of giving. His absence will be felt profoundly by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. As we bid farewell to Thomas S. Verone, we celebrate a life lived fully, a heart given freely, and a spirit that will forever light the way for those he leaves behind.

I grew up with Butch in the same neighborhood, we have known each other since about 4 or 5 yrs old, and kept in touch ever since. This is a sad day for those who knew him.
God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
