Thomas William Versocki

Thomas William Versocki, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 3, 2024. Born on July 20, 1944, in Niskayuna, New York, Thomas was a loving, brilliant man who lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of all who knew him.
Raised in Schenectady, Thomas was not only a standout All-American football player at Mont Pleasant High School but also an academic achiever who went on to pursue his passion for languages. He was awarded a football scholarship to Holy Cross College, where he majored in French, and later earned his Master's Degree from Assumption University in Massachusetts. His love for learning continued as he gained certifications in other languages from Union and Albany colleges. It was during these formative years that he fell in love with his high school classmate, Carol L. Weidman, who would become his cherished wife.
Thomas dedicated 33 years of his life to the Niskayuna Central School District as a dedicated French teacher. His enthusiasm for French culture led him on many educational journeys to France, enriching the lives of his students through firsthand experiences. His travels with Carol to Europe fostered lifelong friendships and connections across the globe through exchange programs they were involved in.
Upon retiring in 2000, Thomas left an indelible mark as the beloved "Mr. V," remembered not only for his contributions to education and the New York State Teacher's Association, but also for his profound influence on the football field. He was a respected coach for Niskayuna High School for over 13 years, he shared his love for the game and personally enjoyed the New York Giants.
In his golden years, Thomas relished his role as "Grampy" to his cherished granddaughter Samantha. He was her most avid supporter, cheering her on at every match. His home in Glenville was his sanctuary, where he took pleasure in various projects, always improving and enjoying his forever home.
A man of many talents, he was known for his handiness, a trait that complemented his intellectual pursuits, especially reading. His happiest moments were spent with family at their beloved Galway Lake, where memories were made and cherished year after year. Carol and Tom opened their home and hearts to many rescued dogs over their lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Versocki; son, David (Amy) Versocki and Granddaughter, Samantha Versocki. Tom is predeceased by his parents, William and Melvina Versocki as well as his siblings, Louise Flint (and Brother-in-laws Thomas McCullough and John Flint) and William Versocki Jr., and in-laws, Millard and Mildred Weidman. He is reunited with his son, Brian Versocki, who passed in 1988 at the young age of 16.
Thomas William Versocki was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He will be remembered as a pillar of the community, a devoted family man, and an educator who inspired a love of learning and cultural appreciation in his students.
