Thomas Waggoner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheets & Childs Funeral Home - Churubusco on Dec. 28, 2025.
Thomas Waggoner, 54, of Churubusco, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital.

He was born on September 28, 1971, in Fort Wayne, to Michael and Deborah (Sanders) Waggoner. Thomas spent his formative years in Churubusco, graduating from Churubusco High School in 1990 and later from IVY Tech.

Tom was married to Crystal Doehrman in Churubusco on May 30, 1998. Tom made it clear from a very young age that he wanted to be a father and was blessed with three children, who were his true joy.

He devoted his professional life to working in HVAC, most recently as an Independent Contractor, showcasing his dedication and passion for his craft.

As a member of Sugar Grove Church of God, Thomas was deeply committed to his faith and his community. His passion for teaching and mentoring young people was evident in his roles as past Cub Master of the Churubusco Cub Scouts and current Scout Master of the Busco Boy Scouts. Tom was actively involved in the church's Youth Group and Bible Quizzing teams. Tom recently joined the church Mission Teams as he was always eager to make a difference in the lives of others. But what mattered most to Thomas was being a father. His love for his children was immeasurable, and he took great pride in nurturing and guiding them.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 27 years, Crystal Waggoner; his children, Jordan (Parker Randall) Waggoner, Hunter Waggoner, and Nathaniel Waggoner; his parents, Michael and Deborah Waggoner; his sister, Emma (Mark) Marqueling; his grandmother, Bonnie Sanders; his father-in-law, Don Doehrman, Jr., his brother-in-law, Michael (Denae) Doehrman; nieces, Arabella (his "Poppet") and Nora; nephews, Henry, Chace, and Ethan; and many children adopted into his heart.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom Sanders, Alfred Waggoner, Catherine Corn Gudas, and an uncle, Brad Sanders.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Sugar Grove Church of God, located at 5019 East 500 S-57, Churubusco, Indiana 46723, with calling one hour prior to the service.

The family will also receive family and friends at the church on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Sugar Grove Church of God.
