Thomas Earl Warriner, 75, Plainfield, passed away peacefully at home March 19, 2023. Tom was born February 7, 1948, in Indianapolis, to the late Earl Warriner, Jr. and Phyllis (Moore) Warriner, who survives. He married Kathleen (Glant) on October 29, 1976, and she also survives.
A gifted athlete, Tom grew up in the Camby area and attended school in Decatur Township. He graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1966, where he excelled in football and also played baseball. A gifted halfback, Tom held the Marion County scoring record in 1965 and was later inducted into the Decatur Central Athletic Hall of Fame. He was recruited to play football for I.U. and was a member of the team that played in the 1968 Rose Bowl against the USC Trojans. Tom’s love for the Hoosiers remained an important part of his entire life.
He began a successful career with Delta Airlines in 1971 and retired as Operations Manager in 2002. In addition to Indianapolis, Tom had overseen operations in Cincinnati, Montreal, and New Delhi through the years. He had been a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Tom enjoyed traveling immensely and created countless family memories in their RV. He especially enjoyed the western states – the 5 national parks in Utah were among his favorites. His love for skiing, hiking, and camping was passed onto his children and their children. Tom’s role as PaPa was one that he especially enjoyed. Tom’s memory will be forever cherished by his many friends and family who will miss his “one of a kind” personality and “unique” sense of humor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy; children, Nikki (Jim) Breading, Jon (Dawn), Scott (Rebekah), and Kyle (Kim) Warriner; mother, Phyllis Warriner, sisters, Jacque Doucey and Debbie Flowers; grandchildren, Lily, Charlotte, Luke, Nate, Vivien, Amira, Andrew, and Oliver; last but not least, his beloved English cream golden retriever, Gracie.
