Thomas Marion Wright, age 75, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away unexpectedly
on Sunday, May 7th, 2023. Tom was born on October 10th, 1947, to the late Marion
and Margaret (Lloyd) Wright in East Chicago, Indiana. He grew up in Griffith,
Indiana, graduating from Griffith High School in 1966. Tom was a veteran of the
U.S. Army, serving as a member of the 4th Infantry Division in the Vietnam War.
In 1979, Tom moved to Michigan and spent his working years with Wolverine
Pipe Line Company, eventually retiring in 2004. After spending some time in Florida
and North Carolina, Tom settled in Georgia in 2009. He became a devoted member
of the VFW Post #7807 and the American Legion Post #23 of Hiawassee, GA,
working as the Canteen Manager for several years and volunteering wherever
needed. Other interests of Tom’s included woodworking, watching NASCAR races,
and watching basketball games, with the Indiana Hoosiers being his favorite team.
One of his preferred ways to start a day was by having breakfast at Main St. Grill in
Hiawassee.
Surviving Tom are his wife, Daisy Allen-Wright of Hiawassee; son, Michael
(Tina) Wright of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Becky Glade of Michigan City, IN;
daughter, TJ (Jess) Presley of Middleville, MI; daughter, Stacey (Dan) Owens-
Molton of Hayesville, NC; son, John (Destiny) Owens II of Dandridge, TN;
daughter, Jaimee Owens of Battle Creek, MI; grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Shaylee
(Joey), Jordan, Kaylea (David), Megan, Chesney, Aviana, and Everly, with another
due in August, as well as his first great-grandchild also due in August. A number of
nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends also survive.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis (Larry) Jahnz,
along with special aunts and uncles.
Arrangements are being handled by Banister-Cooper Funeral Home in
Hiawassee, GA. Per Tom’s request, no formal services were held. The VFW will be
honoring Tom with a special ceremony. Please direct any memorial contributions to:
