Thomasine L. Gronkowski, affectionately known as "Tommie" to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on January 2. 2025 at the age of 92. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 15, 1932, Tommie was a lifelong resident of the city. Beloved wife of the late Edward John Gronkowski; loving mother of John (late Pauline Saliga) Gronkowski, late Edward (Angel Nonas) Gronkowski, and Timothy (Rose) Gronkowski; cherished grandmother of Edward, Pamela, Thomas, Nadia, Amelia, Jamie, and Stuart and great-grandmother of Christopher, Angela, Princess, Remy, Angelina, and Adeline; dear sister of the late Dorothy (late Joseph) Vozar and Jeannine (late John) Noe; also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A woman of remarkable spirit and self-determination, Tommie lived life on her own terms. She possessed a deep-seated kindness that touched all who knew her. She instilled her values of self-reliance and compassion in her children.
Known for her warm smile and unfailingly positive outlook, Tommie had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and loved. She enjoyed having dinner and cocktails with family and friends. She was also renown for her Irish Soda Bread that she would bake to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. An avid lover of the arts, Tommie frequently attended the theater and enjoyed all genres of music. She traveled frequently and always enjoyed a good adventure.
Professionally, Tommie held many roles during her lifetime including time spent working for the SEIU, Bismarck Hotel and Acme Freight where she made many friends along the way.
Tommie had a strong sense of community and gave back in countless ways. She was a dedicated volunteer at Northwestern Hospital, participated as board member for her HOA and generously donated to multiple charities.
Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be held at McInerney Central Chapel, Chicago, on January 18, 2025 from 2pm through 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tommie's memory to the charity of your choice.
