Timothy Arant Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Guidry Funeral Home Inc. - Church Point on Nov. 21, 2025.
Church Point, LA: Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on January 10, 2026 for CWO2 Timothy Mark "Gunner" Arant, USCG, Ret, 79, who passed away at 2:57 PM Thursday, November 20, 2025 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Lafayette, LA.
Timothy, a resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Philip Arant and the former Mary Daly. A respected veteran, Timothy dedicated his life to service, both to his country and his community. From 1968 to 1992, Timothy served with distinction in the United States Coast Guard as a weapons specialist; serving in the Viet Nam War and attaining the rank of CWO2 WEPS. After retiring from active duty, his commitment to maritime safety led him to continue his career as a civilian vessel inspector for the Coast Guard from 1993 to 2003. Timothy was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW, maintaining close ties with his fellow veterans in Fernley, NV and Morgan City and Church Point, LA.
In Fernley, Timothy was fondly known for his role as Santa Claus, bringing joy and cheer to the community alongside his wife, Merlyn, who played Mrs. Claus. For ten years, they created cherished memories for countless families. His legacy of service and community spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Merlyn Lejeune Arant of Church Point; three grandchildren and his extended family in Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kate and a brother, Joseph.
Personal condolences may be sent to the Arant family at www.guidryfuneralhome.com. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
