It is with a heavy heart we announce that our sweet Papa Tim passed away peacefully at his home on February 7 th, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Tim lived a full and vibrant life guided by his faith and his deep love for his family. Tim was born June 9, 1937, in
Butte, Montana to Tim & Ann Driscoll. His early life with his sister Jo centered around church, school, sports and mining life in Butte. Tim was very proud of his Montana roots, his Irish heritage, his Catholic faith and he was a great patriot.
Life changed for Tim in his senior year of high school when he met the love of his life Rosalie Piazzola. Shortly after graduation he was drafted into the Navy where he served for 4 years on the USS Tortuga. They wrote weekly letters to each other which we still have today. Upon his return he attended the University of Montana and Rose & Tim were married June 13, 1960, on Miner's Union Day.
They welcomed their first child Mark, then Linda and Corey quickly came along. In 1964 the family of five moved to San Francisco and the following year they welcomed a son Shaun and settled in The Village neighborhood in San Mateo. In 1970 they completed their family with the arrival of Michelle and moved to the house on 24 th Avenue in 1972.
Driscoll family life centered around seasonal sports for 5 kids including football, baseball, and softball. Tim was a fixture on the board of directors for every sport including San Mateo Pop Warner, San Mateo Bobby Sox, San Mateo Little Leage, Hillsdale Athletic Boosters and Tim was an umpire for over 30 years. He made lifelong friends with sports families and his impact on the youth in San Mateo is immeasurable.
As his children grew up and got married and had kids, Tim found his greatest joy as a grandfather. He wasn't just our Papa; he was everyone's Papa. He loved to attend school and sporting events and never missed a play or grandparents' day. He was a fixture at every grandchild's school, and everyone knew Rose & Tim at every sports field, court or theater in the bay area.
Rose and Tim were faithful fans of the San Francisco Giant's and loyal tailgaters and season ticket holders for the 49ers at Kezar and Candlestick Parks. He was also a diehard University of Notre Dame and Montana Grizzlies fan. They loved to travel to see their favorite teams and would go to the ends of the earth to watch their kids, grandkids and extended family in their games and tournaments.
Tim held various jobs in accounting and retired from his role as Chief Financial Officer for Shorenstein Hays-Nederlander Theaters in San Francisco. This position allowed Rose and Tim to see most stage plays that came through San Francisco and fueled his love of music and the arts.
Tim was a loving caregiver to Rose until her passing in 2024. He moved to The Peninsula Regent where he started a new chapter in his life. He met new and amazing friends. He enjoyed playing bocce ball, Zumba class and attended many outings & events in the bay area. We are forever grateful to the residents and staff at the Regent who have been so kind to Tim and to our family.
Tim lived his life as God's faithful servant by the words of Saint Padre Pio "pray, hope and don't worry!"
Tim will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Rosalie Driscoll, his sister Jo Erickson and her husband Woody. Tim leaves behind 5 children, Mark Driscoll (Julie), Linda Hughes (Tony Rafello), Corey Stanley (Shawn Burns), Shaun Driscoll (Lori) & Michelle Zalba (Jose), 11 grandchildren, Meghan Driscoll (Ty Day), Mackenzie Driscoll, Shelby & Jordyn Stanley, Isabella Zalba (Conner Walker), Jose Miguel (Riley Brown) & Danny Zalba, JT & Emily Hughes, Ryan (Courtney) & Ashley Driscoll and 1 great grandchild Willow Day. Tim is also survived by niece Patty Ryan (Dennis), their children Elyse and Woody, nieces Connie Doherty (Tom), Kathy Olson (Randy), sister-in-law Mary Carol Orizotti (John deceased), sister-in-law Marlene Piazzola (Dan deceased), many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Please join us to celebrate Tim's amazing life. Vigil Service will be held Thursday March 19 th at 7:00pm at Sneider, Sullivan & O'Connell's in San Mateo and Funeral Mass Friday March 20th 10:00am at St Gregory Catholic Church in San Mateo.
