Timothy Joseph Gaughran, known to friends and loved ones as TJ, passed away at his home in LeRaysville, PA, on May 3, 2024 at the age of 62. Born on July 26, 1961, in Point Pleasant, NJ, Tim grew to be a loving, friendly, and adventurous soul who touched the lives of many with his generosity and spirited tales.
TJ was the cherished son of Patricia Gaughran and the late Kenneth C. Gaughran. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, including his siblings Michael (Terri) Gaughran, Robert (Karina) Gaughran, Daniel (Loralyn) Gaughran, Matthew (Nicole) Gaughran, Casey (Diana) Gaughran, Kelley Callery, and Suzanne (Gerald) Madden. His legacy continues through his son, Brandon Gaughran, and daughter, Alicia Gaughran; his grandchildren: Gabriel, Melody, Kameron and Makayla. TJ will be missed by several aunts and uncles. He was a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend, leaving behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember his stories and laughter. His sisters Kim and Cindu "Cindy" Gaughran predeceased him, leaving a space that he filled with memories and honor.
An alumnus of Delaware Academy in Delhi, NY, Tim's dedication to his country was evident as he embarked on a distinguished career in the US Army after graduation. His military journey began at Fort Jackson and spanned across the United States and abroad, including a memorable stint in Germany where he embraced the language and culture. Tim's service to his nation was a source of immense pride, and he carried the values of loyalty and courage throughout his life.
After his military career, TJ found solace and community in his faith. As a member of the Neath Church, he would make his weekly pilgrimage on his 4-wheeler, a testament to his commitment and the joy he found in fellowship. TJ's presence at church was to be seated in the back row, where he shared his faith. His church friends will dearly miss his warm spirit.
TJ's love for life was reflected in his passions. An ardent supporter of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, he reveled in the thrills of the game. His adventurous spirit shone through in his love for hunting and fishing, pursuits that connected him to nature and the simple pleasures of life. A proud veteran, TJ never missed an opportunity to share his experiences and the lessons of history with those around him.
Known for his big heart, TJ's generosity knew no bounds, especially when it came to his mother, for whom he would do anything. His caring nature was a beacon of light, guiding those who knew him toward kindness and compassion.
TJ's love for storytelling and history was matched only by his ability to weave tales that captivated and educated. He had a gift for making the past come alive, a skill that will be missed by all who had the pleasure of listening.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, May 9th at 10 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting his guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com
Those who wish may kindly consider a memorial gift in his memory to the Neath Church, 4702 Williams Rd., Warren Center, PA 18851
As we bid farewell to TJ, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Tim's love and the joy he brought to our lives will forever remain in our hearts.
TJ's life was a journey of love, service, and adventure. His memory will be cherished, and his stories will continue to inspire. As we reflect on his life, we take comfort in knowing that Timothy Joseph Gaughran lived fully, loved generously, and left a legacy of warmth and friendship that will endure.

TJ was my best friend. We deployed for a year to Bosnia Herzegovina while fighting was still ongoing. We did dozens of reconnaissance missions throughout the entire country. TJ logged over 1 million driving miles in a year and kept me safe while I was up in the turret manning a machine gun. TJ was an Operation Desert Storm/Shield Combat Veteran, Bosnia veteran and also did Civilian Work in Iraq and Bosnia.
He should´ve achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major with his time and experience but like me he had problems not telling superiors they are wrong when wrong. That´s what I loved about him. He left the Army a Sergeant E-5 after serving a combined total of 20 years Active Duty between his initial Active Duty Service and his Active Reserve Service which included two year long deployments.
He loved his family and spoke often of his parents (his father an Army veteran), numerous siblings (at least one of his brothers was an Army and USMC veteran. TJ´s parents were teachers and he must have inherited their genes as he enjoyed learning other languages and was proficient in conventional German which he taught to GI´s and taught English to German civilians. On deployment to Bosnia his German language skills came in handy on numerous precarious occasions. TJ spoke often of his son and daughter and his desire to have a closer relationship with them. He spoke of his sisters and their hardships but always with love.
I wish I had been half the friend to TJ as he was to me.

We met in Germany on our way to Bosnia Herzegovina in December 1995. I was a volunteer filling in for another soldier who refused to deploy. TJ was the only person in my new unit that actually took time to speak with me when I was new to the unit.

He would share something very personal and end by saying, to quote Paul Harvey, "and that's the rest of the story".

Today is your birthday and I miss being able to telephone you to wish you a Happy Birthday.
