Timothy (Tim) Gene Kirkwood of Sadler, Texas peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2025. He was born on February 9, 1958 in Kinsley, Kansas to James and Io Kirkwood, who preceded him in death.
Tim spent his childhood on the family farm, alongside his parents and eight siblings, where he developed a strong work ethic that would stay with him throughout his life. Tim was raised by parents who loved the Lord and pointed him to Jesus. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy and enjoyed serving in various capacities in his local church over the course of his life. Tim married his wife of 47 years, Veronica (Unruh) Kirkwood, on January 1, 1978. He was a proud father to four children and eight grandchildren. He loved children and was always seen with a crowd of them around him at family gatherings.
Tim began his career in the oil field before settling in Pampa, Texas and becoming a firefighter in 1987. He spent 20 years with the Pampa Fire Department, retiring at the rank of Captain in 2007. He returned to the oil field for several more years before fully retiring in Sadler, Texas.
Outside of work, Tim loved music, particularly bluegrass, and spent many years playing guitar and singing with his dear friends in a gospel band. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family. Tim never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with others and sharing stories. He had a generous heart and loved helping others.
Tim is survived by his wife, Veronica; his children, Clayton Kirkwood of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, Jared Kirkwood (Athena) of Pottsboro, Texas, Karen Nixon (David) of Poteau, Oklahoma, and Alicia Black (Lucas) of Heavener, Oklahoma; grandchildren Jacob, Kaelyn, and Hudson Kirkwood, Macy, Bennett, and Cora Nixon, and Beau and Joanna Black. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Kirkwood, Aaron Kirkwood (Nancy), Karen Freeman (David), Steven Kirkwood (Jane), Lester Kirkwood (Kristi), Dierdre Tidwell (Phillip), Kerry Kirkwood (Carla), and Sherry McGee. He will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers are Clayton Kirkwood, Jared Kirkwood, David Nixon, Lucas Black, Brendel Kirkwood, Jacob Kirkwood, Clint Hancox, and Chad Imani.
A funeral service will be held on August 5 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas, burial to follow at 2:00 PM at Mount Tabor Cemetery, in Sadler, Texas.
