Timothy Lewis Lafitte was born on February 28, 1938, to his loving mother Jeanne C. Burgess (Healey) and his birth father Chester Lafitte. (He was raised from the age of 10 by Edward (Eddie) Healey.) He made his final journey home on March 31, 2025, at age 87 at Davis Hospital in the loving care of his beloved wife Margy (Dad called her Marge), surrounded by family. My father was a devoted husband. My mother was the center of his world. He was a private man about matters of the heart, but his actions spoke volumes!
He was a man of great integrity, who was known for his humor, great strength to keep going in spite of the challenges he faced in life. He was known to be a man of his word. He would say, "a man is nothing without his word". He was simple, and straight forward, no nonsense, but fair. My mom and those who knew dad knew he was meant for my mom and she for him. Their relationship was an inspiration for many whom I would share their story with. He built a great foundation for our family along with his beloved wife. They had 57 wonderful years of marriage together.
My father sure loved his outdoor hobbies and was a lover of fishing, camping, and hunting. If my father wasn't with his beloved wife he was out on the lake in his boat fishing (and the daily grocery store trips). He highly enjoyed getting out on the boat at least once a week with his fishing buddy Dennis or sometimes granddaughter Lina out to Willard Bay hoping to catch him some catfish to come home and fry up! Oh, how he loved his fried catfish, hushpuppies, cookies & vanilla ice cream! Childhood favorites!
Dad was a country boy at his core, growing up in Louisiana, Kansas City, The Ozarks, and spending time in the summer on his grandparents' farm. He would tell us stories about the times when he would go out and catch crawdads and frogs. He said he would stuff his pockets full of frogs to take home to be cooked. He loved frog legs and biscuits! Those are the things that would go into his pockets as a youngster :-).
Dad was known for his elaborate storytelling about the colorful adventures he had in his youth and in the Navy over in Guam. Dad was deeply impacted by his time in Guam he spent from 1957-1963. The comradery, the ship, and the heartfelt emotional turbulence, and antics (trouble) he and the boys would get into. Deep bonds were made that stuck with him to the very end of dad's life.
He got his start in the Navy in firefighting and then after serving he became a fireman with L.A. fire department. At this time, he was married to his first wife Billie and had two beautiful daughters Deborah (Debbie) and DeAnn in California where they are still at til this day. Later, after Billie and dad divorced, he and my mom (Marge) met, fell in love and married in 1968. My brother Tim and I (Cathy) came later, and they eventually moved to Utah on the recommendation of his dear friend, Jack whom he met in the fire department in California. We called him Uncle Jack as those two were like brothers and he was there in our lives ever since with his wife Dolores (Aunt) and their children (cousins). Dad is a grandpa of seven beautiful grandchildren, Lina, Jessica, Kevin, Lydon, Aaron, Nathan, Ashlee.
We as a family would like to thank you dad (Husband, uncle, friend, brother) for being an amazing influence and character in our lives! You will be dearly missed. Survived by wife, daughter and grandchildren.
