Timothy Scott Lewis (62) passed away on January 29, 2025 after a valiant 19-week fight against an aggressive form of melanoma. He was surrounded by his wife of 36 years, Renee Byrd-Lewis and sons, William (Will) Scott and Alexander (Alex) Rene.
Tim was born in Okinawa, Japan on March 5, 1962, the son of Air Force Technical Sergeant Billy Brown Lewis and JoAnne Ford Lewis. He is survived by two older brothers – Gary Michael Lewis (wife Lori) and Steven Kevin Lewis (wife Penny). The family's active and adventurous spirit set the stage for an exciting childhood and laid the foundation for his life of extraordinary contributions.
During his father's 20-year military career, Tim lived in domestic and international locations, and the family settled in Georgia in 1974. Tim graduated from Clarkston High School in 1980, and his extra-curricular activities were grounded in music, including band, chorus, technical support for musical and theatrical productions, and serving as a part-time DJ for a local radio station. During a high school production in 1983, he met his soul mate and forever best friend, Renee. Together, they shared a love for music and traveled the world as staff members of Up With People, a student-centered musical, community service, and experiential education program.
In 1995, Tim and Renee settled in Buford, Georgia, and soon after Will and Alex were born. Tim was the ultimate dad to his boys, supporting them with little league baseball, Boy Scouts, high school marching band, and competitive drum corps. He brought unimaginable innovation and technical expertise to everything he touched and was legendary when it came to pinewood derby car construction and high-tech marching band and drum corps props. In his later years, he became a master wood-worker, making custom instruments, carving boards, signs, and other items for family and friends.
A self-taught IT professional and engineer, Tim worked in the family business (Lightnin' Rentals) and other start-up healthcare and IT companies. Recently, he returned to his roots as a lead engineer at Lightnin' Production Rentals, driving innovation in the motion picture industry through the design and manufacturing of solar powered equipment.
Tim's light will forever shine brightly in the countless lives he touched. Whether as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, Up With People staff member, or favorite "cabana boy," Tim was loved and admired. A Celebration of Life is planned for family and close friends at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 15 at Koury Farms, 972 Old Hog Mountain Road Auburn, GA 30011.

I have fond memories of Tim hanging out with Cast C 87, and fantastic memories of our post year trip to Florida. He was a class act, so generous with his time and talents, and I am so sorry to hear this. Sending Renee and family healing thoughts and every best wish for comfort.
