Obituary

"And when the day is over and the night has drawn near, I say a word of Thanksgiving and a prayer for those I hold dear. Now I lay me down to sleep; I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take."

Goodbye wife, Goodbye son, grandchildren, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, family and friends. Good morning, Lord.

We, the family, offer this obituary as a brief account of a life too full for words.

On January 20, 2026, Turner W. Young (Bingo) departed this life and went home to be with God. Born on April 2, 1955, to the late Deacon Bryant W. Young and the late Mother Hattie Norman-Young. The only son in a family of five children. He was predeceased by two sisters, Veronica and Terri Young.

His formal education began in the publ8c school system of Chicago Illinois and was completed in the Dekalb County school system. He attended Clarkston High School and participated in the track and field and gymnastic programs.

After completion of his education, Turner went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Airforce as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired after 20 years of faithful service.

Upon retiring from the Airforce, Turner continued his educational pursuit. He was a licensed Cosmetologist and a certified plumber. He worked for the United Postal Service and was later employed for twenty-two years as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines.

Turner's earliest religious training began at St John Apostolic Holiness Church in Tucker, Ga, under the tutelage of Bishop C. W. White. After marrying Minister Phyllis Elliott, he joined Travelers Rest Baptist Church, where he enjoyed many faithful years of service as a Deacon and Chief Financial Officer.

Bingo, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was on marked by love and compassion.

Those who knew Turner will remember his for his infectious personality and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

An avid golfer, Turner enjoyed a good cigar, smooth bourbon and classic tequila.

Although Turner's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.

We, who have love, inspiration and precious memories of our beloved one, are left to cherish this great man with a big heart and soul.
