T. Scott Martin, age 68, of Plain City, Ohio, passed away in Dublin, Ohio after prolonged illness on October 22nd, 2024. Scott was born in Newark, Ohio on August 28th, 1956, to Guy Martin and Christina (Null) Martin. He grew up in Granville, Ohio, graduating from Granville High School, before attending Franklin University.
Scott met the love of his life, Sharon Oberlin in Columbus, when his dog, Partner, took a liking to her on their walks around the neighborhood. He always assumed that she must have had dog treats hidden somewhere. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married April 30th, 1983. After having two sons, they decided to relocate to Plain City where he would spend the rest of his life.
Scott always had an affinity for young people and loved spending time and taking any opportunity to speak with his two sons and five grandchildren. He was a volunteer Track & Field coach at Jonathan Alder High School for nearly a decade teaching athletes to throw discus and shot put while emphasizing the importance of little chocolate donuts to an effective training regimen. He was well known around the neighborhood for the "Harley" persona and the colorful and fiery shows he would put on for Trick and Treaters.
Scott had a lifelong love of music. He played saxophone in the Licking County 4-H band before forming "The Monday Morning Blahs" with friends playing a variety of music spanning eras from the 1890's to the 1970's. Over the years he was known to bring out his saxophone and play impromptu concerts for the family. He also enjoyed anytime he could listen to Steely Dan or the Moody Blues.
Scott worked for 27 years as a Corrections Officer at London Ohio Correctional Institution where he was also a member of the Medical Special Response Team, eventually serving as Commander.
Scott will always be remembered for his colorful personality. He was never one to turn down a good conversation and everyone always knew how he felt about a situation. He loved a good joke and was a wonderful storyteller.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Guy Martin; grandmothers Charlotte Weiser and Nellie Wehl; and grandfathers Alvin B. Martin and Samuel Null.
Scott is survived by his wife Sharon Martin; sons Sean (Melanie) of Vanlue, Ohio and Seth Martin (Beth) of Amherst, NY; grandchildren: Emma Martin, Josiah Martin, Ruth Martin, Lydia Martin and Ian Martin; mother Christina Martin; sister Cheri Miller; brothers Michael Martin and Todd Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 from 6PM to 8 PM at Ferguson Funeral Home 202 East Main Street Plain City, Ohio 43064. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, at 11 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment to follow at New California Cemetery Plain City, Ohio.
