Timothy McRorie Obituary

Timothy McRorie

August 6, 1957 - May 28, 2025

Mooresville, North Carolina - Sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you'll have the honor of knowing someone whose light shines brighter than most. Timothy Dean McRorie was that light for many people.

Tim passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home in Mooresville, NC. Born on August 6, 1957, in Charlotte, NC, he was preceded in death by his parents, Reece and Gloria McRorie, and his brother Sean, yet his proud legacy will live on through his surviving family members: his loving wife of 42 years, Paula; his adoring daughter Molly (Chris) Cook of Belmont, NC; his son Drew (Danielle) and grandchildren Hudson, Jett, Hendrix, and Jimi of Fort Mill, SC; his brothers Brian of Charlotte, NC, Danny of Spartanburg, SC, and Stephan (Karen) and their sons Trevor and Aaron, all of Newton, NC; his beloved dog Cincy, who was always by Tim's side and the grateful recipient of his endless spoiling; and all of the faithful friends Tim collected and kept over the years since childhood.

As a devoted husband, loving father, supportive brother, and loyal friend, Tim embodied the very best of what it means to live a life of purpose and graciousness. He had an innate ability to put everyone around him at ease, always upbeat, positive, and full of mirth. He was an expert sailor and boat rigger, faithful Dead Head and Tarheel fan, and loved Cosmic American music. He enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge by helping and teaching others, yet remained humble in his wisdom, a rare combination that defined him.

Throughout his life, Tim found joy in everything he did and in the people who surrounded him. He counted himself fortunate to make a living doing what he loved most, working on boats. His early career took him to various marinas around Lake Norman, eventually starting his own rigging business, Carolina Rigging Company, which put him in contact with people all over the East Coast. He went on to manage the boatyard at All Seasons Marina for 18 years, becoming an irreplaceable cornerstone of the lake community. Tim's profound expertise in all things nautical, especially sailboats, and the connections he built over the years earned him immeasurable respect in the business. On Lake Norman he was one of a kind, and his presence will be sorely missed.

Despite facing health challenges since 2017, Tim's dedication never wavered. Even when confronted with unbeatable cancer odds, Tim stood bravely with determination and optimism, never complaining, and always putting others before himself. He continued working at the boatyard even as his physical strength began to wane, demonstrating immense grace and resilience throughout his long-fought battle. Tim's kindness, generosity, and deep gratitude for every moment became his enduring legacy, showing all who knew him what it truly means to be a good person.

The McRorie family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and love to Levine Cancer Institute's Drs. Brown, Riggs, and staff for their exceptional care, and to Tim's close friend and business partner George Moser, the Oscar to Tim's Felix, for his unwavering support.

To honor Tim's memory, please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 10, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Brawley's Beverage, 4620 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. We are going to miss our oldest and dearest friend so much. Jay went to grammar school with Tim. Christmas parties, weddings, family gatherings, and lots of boating, Tim and Paula always came when invited. We are just heartbroken.
