Timothy Sabo Obituary
Timothy Todd Sabo
7/20/71 - 4/5/2024
Following a devastating diagnosis of esophageal cancer in January 2024, Tim passed away peacefully with his family and friends by his side. Tim was born in Portage, Michigan, graduating from Portage Northern High School. He received his undergraduate degree and master's in Historic Preservation from Eastern Michigan University and was pursuing a second master's degree from the University of Toledo. Tim was a respected professional working in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. He was a member of the Ypsilanti Historical Society for six years, serving as a board member since 2021, and chairing the 2023 Christmas Committee.
Tim loved the city life and was fortunate to live in New York and Chicago where he frequented art museums in both cities. Wherever he traveled, Tim was sure to include a stop at a historical site and his travel partners also had to oblige his interest! An avid fan of the British royal family, Tim posted wonderful historical details from his vast knowledge of the throne and loved Queen Elizabeth. And he loved to reminisce about the glory days of Hudson's department store in Detroit. Tim doted on his Boston terrier, Oliver, who was always dressed to the nines.
He is survived by his brother Colin (Julie) Sabo and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Louis Sabo, his stepbrothers Rick and Nick Sabo, and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
At his direction, Tim has been cremated and will be interred with his parents and grandparents at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids. A celebration of Tim's life will occur this summer.
Donations in Tim's memory can be made to the Ypsilanti Historical Society or to the Hospice of Lenawee.
