Timothy Clyde Simpson, age 68, of Kilgore, Texas, passed away on January 18th 2022 after a heroic struggle with a brain tumor.
Timothy was born on June 19th 1953 to Clyde Roy Simpson and Margaret Ann Simpson in Corpus Christi, Texas. He spent his early years with his missionary family in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and for high school, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to live with his aunt and uncle where he graduated in 1972 from Ray High School.
After graduation Timothy worked various jobs in Houston and Austin, Texas until he found a job at the Marble Falls granite quarry in the heavy equipment maintenance department where he honed his skills in heavy equipment maintenance and excelled in welding. After some years, Timothy moved to Kilgore, Texas where he began working at the Caterpillar company where he also excelled, doing difficult and precise welding jobs for the company, and where he mentored many young welders. In 2012 Timothy was forced into early retirement when he was struck by a drunk driver while riding a motorcycle. This left him severely handicapped.
In June of 2018, Timothy had surgery which enabled him to be more mobile using a prosthesis, and in September, Timothy met Margaret Ellen Chappell, and they were married. With Margaret Ellen's encouragement, Timothy was able to put more time into a passion he'd had for a long time: music. He had always enjoyed singing and playing the piano and keyboard, but he found his place of excellence in playing bass guitar. After playing with various artists, he began to play with a group who became known as the "The Contractors". Along with weekly live performances in the East Texas area, they began making recordings which they posted on the internet, and which gave the group a world wide following. Additionally, Timothy was a member of "Texas Smoke", the house band for the Gladewater Opry which continued until it was shut down because of Covid-19.
In August of 2021, Timothy was diagnosed with a brain tumor which took his life on January 18th of 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Roy Simpson and his mother, Margaret Ann Simpson. He is survived by his wife Margaret Ellen Simpson, by his five children, Daisy Mae Levoy (Cannon), Tim Simpson II (Devan), Margaret Claire Simpson-Stevens, Elisha Samuel Simpson (Bonnie), and Ruth Alcorn (Aaron), and his seven siblings Annye Love, Robert Sterling Simpson (Rita), Rebecca Franklin, Nathan Samuel Simpson, Stephen Roy Simpson (Jodi), Phillip Hogan Simpson (Ruth), Sarah Ann Litchtenbarger (Kerry), as well as sixteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and numerous other extended family members and friends.
