Timothy "Tim" W. Smedley, 62, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2025. Born on October 26, 1963, Tim was the son of the late Lawrence E. Smedley and Alice L. (Peterson) Smedley.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Tim continued his education at Lincoln Technical Institute, where he earned a technical mechanics degree. This training led to a lifelong career as a heavy equipment mechanic-a profession he approached with unmatched dedication, skill, and pride. Tim spent many years with United Rental before retiring.
Tim was a quiet, hardworking man who found joy in simple things, especially the companionship of his beloved dog, Molly. His family remembers him as steady, loyal, and sincere, with a warm sense of humor and a generous heart.
He is survived by his sister, Linda (Jay) Haughee of Leesburg, IN; nephews Jared (Kelsey) Haughee and Matthew Jordan; nieces Jalyn (Wil) Goolsby and Kelli Simon; great-nieces and great-nephews Layne, Layten, Langsten, Maisy, and Leeland Haughee, and Ella Goolsby; and, of course, his faithful dog Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Karen Jordan; and his brothers, David Smedley and Mark Smedley.
In accordance with the family's wishes, Timothy will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
