Thomas Wayne Rost, age 71 years, 11 months and 24 days, died on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at Sanford's Ava Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on May 4th, 1953 in Fairmont, MN, to Merlin & Irene (Josephson) Rost. He was the baby of the three boys. He graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1971 and went on to Canby Vocational School, in Canby, MN for diesel mechanics. After graduating from Vocational school he moved to Maple Plaine, MN and worked for Herc-U-Lift. He then moved back to Ivanhoe, MN to join the Rost Farms farming operation. For 55 years, he and his brothers farmed together and still liked each other at the end of the day. He was also a Pioneer Seeds Salesman for 40 years where he got to know many great people.
On May 11, 1974 Tom was united in marriage to the love of his life that he met at Vocational school, Vickie Lenz. To this union they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Tami Jo.
Tom enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. Had an ultimate love for his family and friends. His life was deeply enriched with the winter trips he took with his wife and the summer fishing trips to the cabin at the River. Grandpa's famous sayings to his grandchildren were "fish hard, shoot straight and make good choices". He also looked forward to the November Guys trip to fish and pheasant hunt with his beloved dog Zoey along with the muzzle loading weekends with his Grandson Tate and friends. He appreciated hunting behind a good bird dog, took great pride in breeding and training German Short Hair Pointers. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events and would be the loudest in the stands. He was known for his wit and humor. His voice and smile would light up the room. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.
Blessed for having shared Tom's life is his wife of 50 years, Vickie Rost of rural Ivanhoe; his two children: Jennifer (Troy) VanOverbeke, Hartford, SD and their children Jada, Tessa, Taten Thomas and Tami (Aaron) Jalas Milford, IA, and their daughter, Grace; his brothers: Merle (Sherry) Rost, Clyde (Wendy) Rost; sisters-in-law: Jan Lenz, Lois (John) Gerber; brothers-in-law:, Larry (Debbie) Lenz, Brian (Pat) Lenz and many nieces and nephews.
