Tom Wertheimer, 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024. Born on December 18, 1938 to Edward Wertheimer Jr. and Gladys Bowman Wertheimer, Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Wertheimer III.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lynn Wertheimer. Loving father to Brian Wertheimer, Kevin Wertheimer, and Kristy (Todd) Greathouse, Tom was a cherished grandfather to Olive, Violet, and Rose. He will also be missed by his niece Ann Hollander and nephew Glen Wertheimer, as well as by great nieces, Atlas and Emma Hollander.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Tom actively participated in the family business, L. and E. Wertheimer, a whiskey brokerage company for Hoffman Distillery, established in the 1880s by his grandfather and uncle. In time they purchased the Lawrenceburg, Kentucky physical plant where their bourbon was bottled under a wide variety of labels and in decorative decanters. Tom originated the slogan "Made by the Sip."
From early adulthood, Tom found his true calling: serving the needs of deprived and delinquent children, which he did for more than 60 years. He received referrals from juvenile court judges, as well as from many of the families he served.
In his commitment to making a difference, Tom founded PALS, an organization that offered essential support to youth. Through this group he provided food, clothing, recreation, guidance, and camp sponsorships. His volunteer work was even recognized by Pat Nixon, wife of Richard Nixon, who visited the bowling group for whom Tom provided lunch and an annual trophy award ceremony, delivering a tribute to each child to build self-confidence and a lesson that recognition could be achieved by good deeds rather than bad ones.
Tom's compassion and dedication to helping others will long be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
In addition to his interest in young people, Tom had a variety of other passions including world travel, architecture, music, and baseball. Furthermore, his personality was characterized by a remarkable sense of humor, as well as a gift for storytelling.
A private family interment will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery.

We submitted a photo of Tom (taken in 2008), but accidentally closed this message board before actually leaving a message with that photo. We thought that this photo is a great memory of Tom who was holding his oldest grandchild. Tom had such a great smile. Enjoyed his visits when he came with Lynn to see his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Sincere condolences to the family.
