CORDELE - Tommie Jean Wright Sheffield Beacham arrived at her forever home on December 27, 2024, two months shy of her 96th birthday, where, along with her Lord and Savior, she had family members there to greet her. She was the widow of Austin Sheffield and Gene Beacham. Other welcomers included her father Tom Wright, mother Mae Sanders Wright, grandson Chess Gay, sister Vivian Wright Faircloth, brother Sheppard Wright, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. What a glad reunion day.
She is survived by her daughter Gayla Sheffield Gay (Ronnie), son Dan Beacham, grandson Bailey Gay, grandson TJ Gay (Lea), and great-grandchildren Addison, Bowen, and Mollie Gay. Family was all important and she treasured her time with each.
A Cordele native, affectionately known by many as "Ma", Tommie was known by many for her musical talent, which she graciously shared. She was the church organist for Third Street Baptist Church for almost fifty years. A charter member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, she also served as its first pianist. Often called on for countless weddings and funerals, she unselfishly and freely gave of her time and service.
Tommie Jean loved the family known as Pinecrest Baptist Church, where she was a member, and a love for the family of Third Street Baptist Church, where she was a long-time former member.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to the Pinecrest Renovation Fund or any church or charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Penia Cemetery. The family will be available for visitation from 2:00 to 3:00.
