Tommy Gibbs

Tommy Gibbs, 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 30, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Robert Couey officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 Thursday morning in the chapel.

Mr. Gibbs was born May 30, 1948, in North Carolina. He was a 1966 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He served his country honorably in the United States Army at the Red Stone Arsenal in Alabama and with the 8th Army G2 in Seoul, South Korea. He began his career in education in 1972 at Fitzgerald City Schools and taught many students until his retirement. He later worked for Fitzgerald Utilities. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tina Kite Gibbs of Fitzgerald; a son, Daniel Gibbs of Fitzgerald; a sister-in-law, Reba Gibbs; a niece, Susan (Lynn) Pope of Glenwood, and two nieces: Randa Pope of Ailey and Lucy Pope of Claxton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Stone Gibbs; a brother, Randall Gibbs; and a special cousin, Wayne Evans.
