Tommy Hunt, 93, of Brimfield, formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully, with his children by his side, on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Proctor Place in Peoria.
He was born March 19, 1932 in Bluford, IL to the late Roy and Lillian Shields Hunt. He married Patricia A. Hunt in Peoria on July 3, 1954. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his three siblings, Major, Jackie, and Patrick.
Surviving are three children, Christopher Hunt, Missy (Steve) Leverton, Gary (Jennifer) Hunt; seven grandchildren, Jarrett (Samantha) Leverton, Sara Leverton, Jenni (Fritz) Hrdlicka, Stephanie Leverton, Payton (Aaron) Hoelscher, Lizzi Leverton, and John Thomas Hunt Five great-grandchildren, Owen and Lucas Leverton, Roman, Lylah, and Asher Hrdlicka.
Tommy was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1949-1953. After his service to his country he worked as a Fireman for Peoria from 1953 until retiring in 1982. He also worked for the Peoria Township Assessor from 1984-1993.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria where his Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30pm on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Fr. Greg Jozefiak will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Entombment with Navy Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tommy's children would like to thank all of the staff at Shepherd's Way at Proctor Place for the love and compassion they showed their dad during his final days.
Memorials may be made to the Peoria Firefighters Retiree Club, or to Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria.
