Mr. Tommy Stevens, age 88, of Thomaston, died Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his residence.
Memorial services for Mr. Stevens will be held on Friday, December 27, at 2:00 PM at the First Methodist Church of Thomaston with Rev. Herb Flanders officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church on Friday from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
Mr. Stevens, a native of Thomaston, was born August 22, 1936, to the late Horace Stevens and the late Thelma Helms Stevens. He was a 1955 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. He was co-owner of Stevens Tire Company with his brother, Harold, and later owned and operated Tread Marketing and Stevens Services Industrial Housekeeping. Mr. Stevens was a member and officer of the GA Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, a former member of the Thomaston Lions Club and the Thomaston Jaycees, and a former president of the Thomaston Touchdown Club and the Thomaston Country Club. He was an avid golfer. In retirement, he pursued his love for woodworking, making furniture, bracelets worn by many women, shoe horns for men, and walking sticks. As a woodworker, he was very meticulous and detail oriented. Mr. Stevens was a member of the First Methodist Church of Thomaston where he had served as a Trustee but was most passionate about serving on the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Faye Ethridge. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Glenda Wilson Stevens of Thomaston; a daughter, Amy (Brad) Lipham of Carrollton, GA; a son, Glen (Lisa) Stevens of Thomaston; a brother, Harold (Marijo) Stevens of Thomaston; three grandchildren: Will Stevens, Beth (Galen) Hobbs, and Walt (Logan) Lipham; and four great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church of Thomaston, PO Box 707, Thomaston, GA 30286.
