Eleanor Antoinette "Toni" Sperduti McGrew, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Willis, TX in the loving arms of her youngest daughter on June 1, 2022 following a brief battle with a sudden diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma with systemic AL Amyloidosis with cardiac involvement.
Toni was born in Riverhead, NY to parents, Anthony and Sally Ann (Wadleigh) Sperduti on December 3, 1953.
Toni spent her childhood in Thornton, AR and Duluth, MN. After graduation from high school in 1972, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corp and went on to train in Washington, DC and San Angelo, TX. She proudly served in the US Army as a German Linguist Radio Interceptor in Berlin, Germany from 1973 - 1976 working for the Army Security Agency (today's NSA) at Field Station Berlin. She received an honorable discharge as a Specialist Five in March of 1976. Shortly after, she returned to San Angelo, TX and used her GI Bill to attend nursing school at Angelo State University.
Toni moved to the Houston area in 1980 and worked at MD Anderson on the IV Team. She later returned to college to finish her nursing degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Associate of Science in Nursing in May 1986 from Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK. She was a member of the Honor's Society and Phi Theta Kappa.
Toni then spent the rest of her life in Conroe, TX and Willis, TX as a Registered Nurse. She began her career as an RN at Doctor's Hospital. She then worked as an RN at Conroe Regional Medical Center Home Health, Strake House, Sadler Clinic, Beacon Specialty Hospital, Huntsville Memorial Hospital and Conroe Surgery Center until her retirement in 2008. She often worked two nursing jobs at a time and opened her own business "Legal Nurse Solutions" in 2004. She was instrumental in opening the first Skilled Nursing Unit in Conroe at Doctor's Hospital.
Toni loved her 1959 Nash Metropolitan and went to many car shows where she met her late husband of over 20 years, Jim McGrew (1939-2020). She and Jim traveled the country in his red 1948 Ford Pickup pulling a Casita Camper visiting all 48 contiguous states.
Toni also traveled overseas to Sora, Italy in 2011 to find her extended Sperduti cousins and toured Rome with her new found cousins. She returned to Sora, Italy again in 2016 with her Phoenix cousins Brenda Sperduti and Jim Sperduti prior to going to Berlin for the first time since leaving Berlin in 1976. The trip to Berlin was through the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation and she was able to tour many areas that she was not allowed to tour while working there as a "spy" with a Top Secret Security Clearance with the ASA. Toni returned to Italy and France again in 2018 and 2019.
Toni loved reading, crocheting, traveling, cooking, eating good food, finding new recipes and all of her dogs. She was so very proud of both of her daughters and their accomplishments; Tara is a high school science teacher and Whitney is a Registered Nurse.
Toni is survived by her two daughters, Whitney Hughes of Willis, TX; Tara (Robert) Hupp, their two children Bej Hupp and Stormi (Jordan) Butcher and one great-granddaughter Astrid Butcher all of Whitesburg, KY. She also leaves behind one sister Nancy Sperduti (Gerald) Shelton of Marshall, NC.
