Tony Anaya

May 15, 1945 – November 10, 2025

Tony Anaya, 80, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025. Born on May 15, 1945, Tony lived a full and honorable life defined by love of family, service to others, and dedication to his community.

In 1975, Tony married the love of his life, Sylvia Anaya, and together they shared 49 years of marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and partnership. He was the proud father of Debbie Anaya Vanevery, Morgan Gonzales Wilson, and Michael Anaya. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren — Felicia Anaya, Stone Anaya, Brittany Wilson Gaskill, Justin Wilson, Walker Wilson, Gwen Wilson, and Logan Wilson — and his six great-grandchildren — Carlos Anaya, Oliver Gaskill, Dean Wilson, Archer Gaskill, Violet Wilson, and Tilly Gaskill.

Tony was one of fourteen children, all of whom preceded him in death. He was the last surviving sibling of a large and loving family that included Sarah Anaya Saavedra, Lucy Anaya López, Gabino Anaya, Soledad Anaya, Maclovia Anaya Drake, Isidro Anaya, Anastacio Anaya Jr., Katherine “Katie” Anaya Ortiz, Louisa Jane Anaya Ruiz, Annie Anaya Armijo, Gloria Ann Anaya Quintana, Sinforosa Anaya Torres, and Elizabeth “Bell” Duran. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Anastacio Anaya.

A retired firefighter and arson investigator, Tony devoted his career to public safety and helping others in times of crisis. After his retirement from the fire department, he continued to serve his community as a safety trainer for Safety Counseling, sharing his deep knowledge and experience with others.

A lifelong athlete, Tony was passionate about sports from a young age. He excelled in football, baseball, and basketball in his youth, and as an adult, he continued to compete in fast-pitch softball in local men’s leagues. His love for the game extended into officiating high school and college football, baseball, and basketball, where his fairness and sharp eye for the game earned him respect across the state.

Known for his steady presence, sharp humor, and genuine heart, Tony enjoyed spending time with his buddies, tinkering in his garage, and finding satisfaction in a job well done. He was a man of quiet strength who expressed love through action more than words — always dependable, always there when it mattered most.

Tony will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

The memorial service for Tony will be at Alameda Chapel from 2:00 - 5:00. The reception will follow afterwards from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Moose Lodge Albuquerque.
