Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Silas Creek Chapel - Winston-SalemTony Gray Hartman, 73, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab in Clemmons.
Tony was born on January 4, 1952, in Forsyth County to Bobby and Alma Cameron Hartman. He grew up surrounded by family and friends who would shape the kind, hardworking man he became. A proud graduate of Mt. Tabor High School, Tony went on to spend more than 40 years as a turbine blade machinist with Siemens Energy (formerly Westinghouse). His dedication and steady work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues and lifelong friendships along the way.
Tony lived life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was a member of Hunting Creek Preserves Gun Club and found great joy in skeet shooting and fly fishing. A true history buff, he could spend hours exploring stories of the past or sharing them with anyone willing to listen. Tony was also an avid motorcycle rider, often seen on the road with his close-knit group of friends he fondly called his “Walmart Angels”. One of their proudest accomplishments was riding Blue Ridge Parkway from end to end. Those rides brought him freedom, laughter, and the kind of companionship he treasured most.
Family meant everything to Tony. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Grace and Archie Cameron, who were like second parents to him, and by his brother, Scott Hartman.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine Shugart Hartman; his daughter, Mary-Katherine Hartman, who was the light of his life; his brother, Rod Hartman; and brother-in-laws Dallas (Lucia) Shugart and Jim (Jane) Shugart. Special thanks to his chosen “brothers” David Bradford, Jeff Holcomb, Lynn Houston and Will Holcomb. Their love and memories of Tony will continue to live on in the stories they share and the moments they hold close.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., at the Little Chapel at Haven Ridge, with Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. The family will receive friends after the service to share memories and celebrate Tony’s life.
