Tony Lester Obituary

An accomplished entrepreneur, Tony was an owner and operator of A, B, and J Coal for years. He was most in his element when he was outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, or simply observing nature. Tony was a devout Christian and practiced his faith by giving back to his community as an avid volunteer. He was a man of tremendous integrity whose family and friends will miss his strength, insight, and dependability.
Tony will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Nora Childress Lester; son, Josh Lester, Lexington; sister, Linda Gayle (Roger) Church, Morristown, Tennessee; very special nieces, Vicky Pendygraft, Harrodsburg, and Angela Skeens, Lexington; as well as a host of other family members, friends, and loved ones.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 9, 2024, also at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery where pallbearers will be Brian Pendygraft, Tanner Robbins, Mark Compton, Ayden Sciandra, Chuck Skeens, and Nick Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Church, Randall Childress, Charles Skeens, Danny Childress.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 78517, Topeka, KS 66675. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and leave messages of condolence on Tony's tribute wall at www.BlackburnandWard.com.

Nora, our thoughts and prayers for you and Tiny during this most trying time, I lost my husband two years ago, I wish we had known of Tony's passing, I would have brought Morris to the visitation. Carolyn (Hackney) Taylor and Morris Hackney

Because of Tony´s love of outdoors, we have purchased a tree to be planted in Uncle Tony´s name. This will replace a tree lost in the devastating forrest fires in Oregon. I chose Oregon because Tim´s son risked his life to battle these very fires. Our family, although spread out over the USA, can come together and give back to the outdoors where Uncle Tony spent so much of his time, and brave family members fight to protect.
This tree will live for many years, as will his memory.

The most memorable things occurred when i was a child. I remember Uncle Tony staying with us, sitting with me when Mom was working on occasion, and always being around during holidays.
I am heartbroken.
I am praying for peace and comfort.
Although miles separated is, the love for family never goes away.
