Tony Riggs, 59, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Sunday, March 6, 1966, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Elvis Riggs and Doris Riggs.
Tony was a beloved member of the Dyer County community, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and an unwavering passion for baseball.
A skilled and hardworking self-employed carpenter, Tony took great pride in his craft. He was also a devoted member of the Dyersburg Church of God, where he found strength and community in his faith.
Tony's true passion in life was baseball. In Dyer County, it was impossible to discuss the sport without mentioning his name. As a coach, mentor, and leader, he dedicated countless hours to developing young athletes, shaping not only their skills on the field but also their character off of it. He coached both league ball and travel ball teams, guiding many of them to State Championship appearances and even national-level competition. His influence extended beyond the dugout as he served on the board of the Dyersburg Dixie Youth League, later becoming its president, where he worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for young athletes.
Tony also shared his knowledge and love for the game in the local school systems, coaching at Dyersburg High School, Dyer County High School, and Northview Middle School. His impact on the players and the community will never be forgotten.
Above all, Tony loved his family. They shared in his passion for baseball, supporting him every step of the way. He cherished every moment spent with them, finding joy in their company and the memories they created together.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
