Frances Riggs Obituary
Frances Genevieve (Miller) Riggs, 96 years old, of Mesa, Arizona, passed at her home on Friday, August 22, 2025,
She was born in Canton, Ohio on August 18, 1929, to the parents of Mack L. and Genevieve E. Miller. She was the sister of Beatrice J. Hulse. Her childhood was spent in Beach City and Massillon, Ohio. Frances graduated from Washington High School, home of the Massillon Tigers in 1947. After high school, she enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, majoring in Communications, where she met her future husband James Dean Riggs.
They were married on May 29, 1948, in Ohio, they began their family in 1950, and she was a devoted stay at home mom to two children and an amazing homemaker for her entire life.
She was also a great cook, and her kitchen was known as "Mom's Café" Anytime one of her kids/grandkids popped in for lunch, she was always quick to fix them a fried bologna sandwich or grilled cheese. She loved serving homemade meals like chicken and noodles made from scratch. Her chocolate fudge at Christmas was everyone's favorite.
Frances, or as her friends called her Fran, attended Broadway Christian Church after she moved from Ohio to Mesa, Arizona in 1975. As a strong Christian, she had a passion for serving others, and she could often be found working in their clothing ministry/food bank helping people in need. She loved attending different small group Bible studies and could be seen driving elderly ladies to the grocery store or to doctor appointments.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, James M. Riggs with daughter-in-law Marcella Riggs and Debra Farschman with son-in-law Marc Farschman, whom she loved dearly. Marc was her faithful caregiver and cook for the last 10 years of her life.
Frances had two grandchildren, John Riggs with granddaughter-in-law Sharlene Riggs and Shane Kubal with granddaughter-in-law Krista Kubal. She had five great grandchildren, Keano Riggs with great granddaughter-in-law Kiaya Riggs and Jordan Riggs, and Larry Miller, Brynly Kubal and Josslyn Kubal. She recently had two great, great grandchildren, Tatum and Marie Riggs. Frances was predeceased by her husband, James D. Riggs, and her sister, Beatrice J. Hulse.
A memorial service for Frances will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ
