Tony Damon Taylor was born on October 3, 1963, In Jackson, MS to Odessa and Willie Taylor. He departed life on January 16 at his home with his wife, Sharon Taylor.
Tony began his education at Bradley elementary school. After completing elementary school, he attended Hardy middle school. Tony then attended Lanier high school, where he was a member of the marching band, golf team, and the ROTC program. He graduated high school in 1981. He then went on to join the National Guard and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia. After completion, he went to the 114th military police division of Clinton, MS. After some time he transferred to the 113th military division of Brandon, Ms.
After 28 years of service, he retired. During his years of service, he received many accolades. He was deployed to Afghanistan, Operation Dessert Storm, and served in Kuwait, where he received the Kuwait liberation medal. He also received a marksman qualification badge, the army commendation medal, the army achievement medal, the army service medal, the national defense service medal, an army lapel button, the southwest Asia service medal, the armed forces reserves medal, and the non-commissioned officer's professional development ribbon.
After returning home from his duties overseas, he worked for St Domonics hospital and Laquita Hotel. He began working for the Mississippi Department of Transportation as a driver, and later he was accepted into the Mississippi Law Enforcement officers training academy, where he graduated and became a Mississippi Department of Transportation Law Enforcement Officer. He went on to work for the state for 24 years. After his years with the state, he worked for the Terry Police Department for 3 years, then accepted a position with the Jackson State Police Department where he served for 5 years.
In 1993 he met his soulmate Sharon Taylor, and in 1995 they were married. One son came from this union, Cameron Damon Taylor.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Odessa and Willie Taylor, along with a brother Cedric and a sister Ladonna Taylor. Tony leaves behind a devoted wife of 28 years, Sharon Taylor, one son Cameron Damon Taylor, one daughter Shelia Williams, stepdaughter Valarie Luckett, one stepson Christopher Griffin, one brother Jeffery Taylor and six grand Children along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In 1996 Tony gave his life to Christ and was baptized under Brother Robert Shelton of Clinton Church of Christ. Tony loved playing golf and was a member of the Nine Iron Golf Club. His motto was "a man who loves life". Tony was the life of the party, and he will truly be missed, but he will live on forever in our hearts.
Visitation Hours will be held Friday January 27th from 1-7 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home
Funeral Servies will be held Saturday January 28th at 2:00 p.m. in Peoples Funeral Home Chapel and proceed to Society Ridge Cemetery located on i55 south frontage rd. Terry, MS
