Tonya Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown - Thomas Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
It is with hearts full of love and cherished memories that we gather together to commemorate the life of Tonya LaShawn Lyles-Johnson, who entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2026, at the age of 57. She was born on January 31, 1968, to Lillie M. Lyles and Willie L. Stinson. As a youngster she was adopted and raised by her now deceased grandparents- Clarence and Dorothy Johnson. Her fraternal grandmother, Vera L. Jones also preceded her in death. Tonya's life was a melody of faith, family, and uncontainable joy.

Tonya was educated in Oklahoma City Public Schools, where she was an exceptional athlete and basketball player and a proud 1985 graduate of John Marshall High School.

She was a woman who brought laughter with her wherever she went, her infectious spirit lifted the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her voice, a gift she generously shared, was often raised in song. Tonya accepted Christ and received her Christian foundation at Evangelistic Baptist Church of Christ. As an adult she attended and served at the House of Prayer Church under the pastorship of her father.

Tonya's greatest treasure was her family. She pledged her love to and married Joey Ashley, who preceded her in death; She was mother to three children and stepmother to 7. Tonya was a doting grandmother to seventeen grandchildren, and a proud great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren. Her love for them was boundless, and she leaves them a a legacy of warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.

While we mourn the loss of her physical presence, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life that touched so many with joy, beauty and grace. Tonya's memory will forever be a song in our hearts, a reminder to live with rejoicing , to love with abandon, and to share our light with the world.

Saddened by her departure, but thankful for the promise of eternal life are: her parents- Lillie M. Lyles and Willie L. Stinson; sisters and brothers- Barbara and Richard Garrett, Vickie Dunn, Doris Dunn, Clarice and Anthony Henry, Clark and Clara Johnson, Toby Lyles, Tracy Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Althalius Curry, LaKefa Curry; Kimberley Hammock (Jonathan), Charisse LuGrad (Chedrick),

Yawn Jones (Monica), Dana Minor, Willie Stinson Jr (Rebecca),

Muffy Nicole Johnson (Chantell).

Her children-Kiesha Lyles,

Roshonna Harriman, Ebonie Calvin, Brittany Lyles, Tocquishia Moore, Joey Moore, Joey Lyles (Ciara Ford)

Karray Howeth and Monaqueiah Hill. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends also cherish the memory of her life.
