It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Toufic Nahhas (May 25, 1934 - March 27, 2023), resident of Birmingham, Michigan. Toufic was the son of Elias and Nageeba Nahhas. Toufic was preceeded in death by his two siblings, Gabriel Nahhas and Gabriel's spouse Dalal Nahhas, his sister Dalal Nahhas and his niece Itihad Nahhas. He is survived by his siblings Nidi (Elias Jabbour) and Victoria (Fares Alzoor), his wife, Samira Dagher, his children, Dr. Ahed (Manar Swade), Oula (Saad Saad), Florise (Fagher Jarjous), Randa (Talal Esper) Dr. George (Dr. Hala Shalhoub), Bassam (Lina Kamleh), and Hassan (Weam Hazeem), many grand-children and great-grand-children.
Before immigrating to the United States, Toufic was a teacher in Safita known for his compassion for education. He would offer tutoring for compensation but also for free to those who could not pay him, a testament of how much he valued access to education for all. Toufic was a talented mathematician and skilled poet, with an impressive ability to recite poems that were pages and pages long. In addition to being an avid hunter, one of his favorite hobbies was caring for the olive trees in Safita, a task which brought him tremendous joy.
The showing will take place Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 5-9:00pm at St. Mary's Christian Orthodox Church in Berkley, Michigan (3212 Twelve Mile Rd, Berkley, MI 48072). The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Mary's Christian Orthodox Church in Berkley, Michigan (3212 Twelve Mile Rd, Berkley, MI 48072), followed by the burial at Roseland Park Cemetery (29001 Woodward Ave, Berkley, MI 48072).
Toufic will be greatly missed by his extensive family and friends. May his memory be eternal.
