Tracye Lee Eades Mickle, defying the odds since 1973
A lifelong Miami resident, Tracye was born to William H Eades Jr and Cheryl Brown Eades in May of 1973. She graduated from Southwest Miami Senior High in 1991 and later earned a degree from Florida International University. Eventually Tracye made her career at FIU and worked there for 29 years; her most recent role was Assistant Director of Procurement Card Services.
Tracye experienced a level of determination that was so strong multiple major setbacks to eventually overwhelm her. Since being diagnosed with gallbladder cancer, she never did the expected and kept outliving the prognoses - from Fernando (as she named the blood clot in the arteries near her brain) to Earl (the aggressive tumor in her gallbladder) - to the extent that there was probably speculation that witchcraft was involved. Based on the videos she put out for her 15,000 followers on TikTok, the rumors could very well be true.
As a small child, Tracye's favorite toy was her father's old shot put, and it was not unusual to see her carrying around what looked like a small cannonball as easily as if it was made of rubber. Tracye was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint, and especially loved doing theatrical makeup. She also loved animals, especially her potbellied pig named Ginger, and would always try to save any injured creature she found.
While working at the elephant ear stand at Santa's Enchanted Forest in the mid-90s, she met James Mickle. They married December 24, 1995 and their son Zachery was born in 2000. As a family, they put in thousands of volunteer hours with the Miami Rescue Mission. Each year they would dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus, with Zache as their elf, for community events, taking pictures with kids and passing out presents for both actual Christmas and Christmas in July. They also donned Easter Bunny costumes each Spring for those celebrations as well.
Tracye is survived by her husband James and son Zachery. She is predeceased by her daughter Zoey.
Tracye is also survived by her parents William and Cheryl Eades, her sister Cheryl Ann, and stepdaughter Jaime Leigh. She also leaves behind a very large extended family, with at least two dozen aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her deep roots in Miami also gave her countless friends, co-workers, and others.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Miami Rescue Mission or Miami Cancer Institute in her name.
