Travis E. Goodchild, 88, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, in Newburyport, MA. He was born on November 10, 1936, in Anson, ME, to Wilfred and Grace (Ferguson) Goodchild.

He married his wife, Elizabeth “Libbie” (Cleveland) Goodchild, on May 16, 1964, in Quincy, MA. They settled and raised their family in Wakefield, MA, where Travis was a well-respected Babe Ruth League coach, bringing his 1986 team to the World Series in Lebanon, MO. He was also a well-known member of the Wakefield Elks, where his cooking skills were enjoyed by many during tailgating, installations, and a variety of other events.

During his youth, Travis excelled in athletics. He was the captain of his high school football and baseball teams. It is even rumored that he was invited to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals. After high school, he lived with his beloved Uncle Duffy while attending Ithaca College. He eventually transferred to Bentley College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business. His career culminated as the CFO for Kraft Generators, and he remained in that position until he retired at age 75.

Travis was a guy’s guy. He loved his friends, his clubs, golfing, and fishing. He was an avid fly-fisherman and enjoyed many outback fishing trips with his “Fishing Buddies”. Over the years, these trips have led to many harrowing stories. One in particular involved being chased by a black bear. He has passed this love on to his son, sons-in-law, and grandsons, who continue their annual trip to Tim Pond Wilderness Camps in Eustis, ME, to this day.

Travis and Libbie had a large group of friends with whom they socialized frequently and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe.

During his later years, he still enjoyed being as active as he could between M*A*S*H* episodes. A burger and a beer at the Grog in Newburyport was a highlight for him, as was hitting a few balls at Ould Newbury Golf Club with his sons-in-law. He told many stories of his childhood that we will cherish, including the time he won a pony at the Skowhegan State Fair.

Travis is survived by his wife Libbie, his children Tracy Morrison, her husband Kevin and their children Carly and Peter Morrison of Byfield, MA; Joanne Masone, her husband Marc and their children Matthew, Paige, and Jennifer Masone of Newburyport, MA; and Tom Goodchild and his children Jake and Grace Goodchild and their mother Beth Goodchild of Wakefield, MA. He is also survived by his younger siblings Harold Goodchild and his wife Maria of Las Vegas, NV, and Janet Williams of Auburn, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Donald Goodchild, his wife Mary, and brother-in-law Steve Williams.

Following a private interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Wakefield Lodge of Elks, 63 Baystate Road, on Thursday, June 26, 12-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Travis’s name to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
