Travis Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 18, 2025.
Travis Holmes Martin, beloved son of Thomas and Elizabeth Martin, was born on March 14, 1960, in San Francisco, California. He spent his early years in San Francisco until 1969, when the family relocated to Tacoma, Washington following his father's reassignment to a new U.S. Army duty station.
Travis's childhood was shaped by his father's military service, which took the family to Fort Hood, Texas, and later to Amberg, Germany. He was a standout athlete in baseball and football throughout school. Despite the many moves, Travis chose to return to his roots in San Francisco to complete his education. He graduated from Mission High School in 1978 and remained in the city until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1982.
During his time in the Army, Travis met and fell in love with fellow soldier Fayetta L. Brown. They married in May 1983 and welcomed a son, Travis Jr. Travis served honorably for ten years, and the family eventually settled in Killeen, Texas.
After his military career, Travis worked for the City of Killeen's sanitation department. Motivated by a desire to provide more for his family, he transitioned into truck driving, a profession that allowed him to travel the country, spreading his love and laughter wherever he went. He often made time to reconnect with family during his journeys.
Travis's military experience also qualified him for overseas contract work, which he pursued for ten years to better support his loved ones. After returning to Killeen, he continued building his life in Killeen. In 2017, he and Fayetta amicably ended their marriage. He remained in Killeen until 2021, when a fire destroyed the home he shared with his mother and sister. Travis then relocated to Dallas, where he lived until his peaceful transition from labor to reward on October 11, 2025.
Travis was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Holmes Sr.; his sister, Chariss Martin; his uncle, Richard Ford; his grandmother, Sadie Shields; his father, Thomas Martin; his aunt, Ella Nobles; his uncle, Charles Holmes Jr.; his brother, Sheldon Martin; and his aunt, Rosetta Gilbert.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Travis Martin Jr.; his mother, Elizabeth Martin; his aunt, Charlene Amerson (Aaron); his sisters, Cheryl Stephens and Katrina Stevens (Terrence); his nieces, Victoria Cunningham, Diamond Stevens, and Asha Martin; his nephews, Andre Martin and Terrence Stevens II; his great-niece, Eliza Cunningham; and his cousin, Camilla Holmes, whom he loved as a sister, along with a host of other cousins and relatives.
Travis will be remembered for his strength, laughter, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
