Tristin's story was very impactful and while I did not know her I certainly felt her words. Beautiful Tristan inspired me to change my nursing research toward institutional betrayal so it might spark change or help nurses going forward. I will keep her family in my thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve for their loss.

This story is heartbreaking. As a retired nurse, I can totally relate to Tristin's pain. I entered the nursing profession later in life, only to have the career of my dreams turn into the career of my nightmares. My heart goes out to the Smith family and friends who have suffered this tragic loss. Tristin, I never met you, but you sound like a beautiful person with a caring, loving heart. Hope the letter will cause some much-needed changes to be made to our healthcare system.

I worked with Smith in the ED. She was a conscientious nurse. She went above & beyond for her patients and was a dependable teammate. She was always ready to help you with a medic or with an IV. There were times I would be swamped, and she would make time in her assignment to help with whatever she could. She helped me get through some really tough shifts. Rest In Peace.

Thank you for sharing Tristin´s letter. I am a long time ED nurse, now a nurse leader. Tristin´s words need to be heard. I have felt those same feelings at times and now frequently see warning signs in many of my staff. I want you to know that I will keep Tristin´s letter with me and think of her as I do my very best to support and advocate for my staff. They are the most important part of our healthcare system, yet the system does not value or respect them. In Tristin´s memory, I will fight for change. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

To Tristin´s Family,
I want to start off by sending my condolences for the loss of your beautiful loved one, Tristin. Words cannot explain the pain I know you all must feel daily due to your loss. I wish we could wave a magic wand and bring her back. But, we can´t.

So, what can we do? Demand change in our healthcare system. Allow nursing unions in all 50 states. Provide better mental health services for healthcare professionals. Allow nurses to be able to discuss suicidal ideations without fearing the loss of their license.

I´ve been a nurse for 12 years and it´s only getting worse. I´ve wanting to end my life numerous times because I didn´t know if my heart could handle anymore hurt. I´d have panic attacks prior to my ICU shifts where I was supposed to have 2 patients but would often have 3 or 4.

I am Tristin. Tristin is me. All of us. Nursing has become a profession where systems take you for all you´re worth and then chew you up and spit you out. None of us deserve this treatment. Especially Tristin.

I am sending you all my love and want you all to know that I will continue to share her story. Because, she mattered. So much. Despite how our for-profit healthcare system treated her. She mattered.

Love,
Jen, MBA, RN

Wow! As a nurse of 15 years, I wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry our healthcare system has let you down, like they have so many other people. Thank you so much for sharing her letter. My heart broke reading it. Something I have been unable to express, she was able to write it perfectly. So many nurses feel this way and it's heartbreaking. Praying for you all, and those who lead out healthcare future.

I just heard Tristin´s story. I am a retired RN. I am heartbroken for what Tristin endured. Nursing is a wonderful profession but nurses are not treated with the respect and care that they deserve.

Thank you to Tristin´s family for sharing her story. People need to know what is happening so that changes can be made to prevent another tragedy.

God bless Tristin´s soul. May her memory be a blessing to those she loved.
