Troy Crane, 61, of Iowa City, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at his home in Iowa City. Troy Don Crane was born September 20, 1964, in Iowa. Troy became a foster child at a young age and was entrusted to the care of Franklin and Kay Sturing. Troy received his education in Pella, attending classes through the Christian Opportunity Center, and later moved to the Cottages at C.O.C., where he began working various jobs in the workshop. Counting parts and assembling items for Vermeer and Pella Corp. were some of the tasks Troy accomplished. Troy later lived in a few different communities, including Ottumwa and Iowa City, where he held various jobs, such as can counting, working at Goodwill, and at the local library. Troy had a love for many activities, and he also enjoyed his work, which involved working with his hands, and that brought him great joy. He enjoyed Gospel Music, especially southern gospel music, which he would play most of the day and occasionally into the night. From time to time, he would turn it up, way up. Troy also delighted in electronics. He loved to know how things worked and enjoyed learning about different mechanical items as well. Troy was well-traveled; he took many road trips, airplane rides, and a few boat trips. Some of his best memories included visiting many national parks on his road trips with Stan and Mel Sturing. Above all else, Troy's love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was his most important attribute. He loved going to church so much that he could usually be seen sitting in the front row. Troy's family includes his special friends, John and Joyce Stam of Oskaloosa; his Sturing foster siblings: Bernie and Ruth Sturing of Anacortes, WA; Judy and Carroll Hol of Cedar, IA; Janice and Rod Van Wyk of Hawarden, IA; Jan Sturing of Sioux Falls, SD; Jack De Jager of Alto, WI; Stan and Melody Sturing of Grand Rapids, MI; and many other foster brothers and sisters. Troy was preceded in death by his foster parents, Franklin and Kay Sturing; as well as his Sturing foster siblings: Marcia and Mark Hoover, Marla De Jager, Marvin Sturing, Debbie and Jerry Atchison, and many other foster brothers and sisters. Funeral Services for Troy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Rev. Stan Sturing officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to the Christian Opportunity Center.
