Commander Troy William Finks was born February 28, 1965, and passed away suddenly and unexpectedly May 28, 2025. These words cannot adequately express his storied life and adventures over the last 60 years. The impossibility renders us speechless and unable to offer a simple vignette here; and we ask his friends to consider their own favorite shared experiences with Troy. What we do note is that along his journey, Troy found friends wherever he went.
Foremost amongst his companions, Troy is survived by the love of his life and treasured wife, Virginia. He is also survived by his daughters, Tanya and Katie; his step-children, Ariel, Emily, and Samuel; step-grandchildren Claire, Ranger, Atlas, and Maeve; his sisters, Sherri (Naser) and Lori; his niece, Laila; and many, many others he considered family. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Thor Finks.
Amongst many things, Troy was known for his adventurous spirit, honesty, wisdom, love, care, protection, kindness, leadership, humor, strength, determination, generosity, loyalty, mentorship, and tenacity. He was fierce, fearless, and brave in all he did. He knew the meaning of sacrifice and hardship and lived with enthusiasm and curiosity. Together we mourn the loss of the man of legend we called beloved husband, father, warrior, and friend.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, 10830 Patriot Hwy,
Fredericksburg, VA 22408. We welcome all those true friends and family who knew Troy to celebrate his gregarious life with us. Family and friends are welcome to visit with us one hour prior to the celebration of life.
Our hearts are irrevocably broken. We mourn his sudden departure, knowing it came far too soon as he had so many more adventures to go on. We will hold him in our hearts forever, honor the impact he made being the incredible man he was, and cherish endless good memories of being together with him. We love you, Troy.
