Trung Duy Dao passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side on April 23, 2024 at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Cuc, his wife of 52 years, and cherished father to daughters, Trang (and son-in-law, Andrew Pierce) and Marianne (and son-in-law, Burr Loew). He was a loving grandfather to Hudson, Parker, Avery, Cooper, and Chase. An adored brother to his brothers (An, Cang, Quang, and Minh) and sisters (Cuc and Mai), many brother and sister in-laws, and the kind uncle as he was known to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Jeanne, and brother John Vincent.
Trung was born in Cholon, South Vietnam on January 13, 1942. He had a fascination with foreign languages and was fluent in four - Vietnamese, English, French and German. His love of global cultures led him to study in Munich, Germany at the Goethe Institute for 3 years. He was a secondary school teacher of French in Can Tho, Vietnam as well as a German teacher at the Goethe Institute in Saigon. As a teacher, he was patient, kind, and diligent, all characteristics that made him a favorite among his students. In April 1975, Trung and his family escaped war torn Saigon and emigrated to the United States in search of a better life with the same grit, hope, and faith that were anchors of his character. Once in the US, with the support of his sister and family, he started all over again. Trung worked days as a photo lab technician while going to school at night at Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. Upon graduating from Wentworth, he began his career at Meditech, working in various roles including as a computer programmer. He was with Meditech for over 30 years until his retirement in 2010.
Trung embodied and lived the American Dream. In spite of many health challenges throughout his life, he was a fighter, an eternal optimist, who never complained, worked hard, loved his family, and had deep faith in God. His greatest joy in life was the family he created together with Cuc and his daughters. He lived to see his daughters graduate college and business school, get married, danced joyfully as Father of the Bride, and made tear jerking toasts. His favorite role was as precious Ong Ngoai to his five beloved grandkids, whom he adored and they adored him in equal measure.
As we grieve during this difficult time, the family is forever grateful for his life and will remember a life well lived. We would also like to thank the health care professionals at South Shore Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, and the Visiting Nurses Association for their compassionate care.
A mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30 at St Mary of the Sacred Heart at 392 Hanover Street, Hanover, Mass at 9am. Family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trung's memory to the American Diabetes Association. Tang gia xin mi n phúng di u.

My husband and I met Trung and Cuc while walking our dogs at Forge Pond Park. We were fascinated by their stories of their early life in Vietnam, and arranged to meet them regularly to walk and talk. Trung was so smart and sweet and we look back fondly on the times we spent with him and Cuc. I wish to credit the devoted care that Cuc gave him with his long and comfortable life.

I remember Trung from days long ago at Meditech. There was an overhead paging system - I think Trung was the most paged person, called to help with issues when the data center was in trouble. He was a valued member of the Meditech team. Rest in peace Trung
