Twyla Lee (Vire) Hefner went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Jacob's Ladder in Springfield, MO. at the age of 96, following a short illness.
Twyla was born on July 25, 1928, to Herschel and Jessie Vire in Bolivar, Missouri. She graduated from Pleasant Hope High School and then furthered her education at Southwest Missouri State University. She became a first-grade teacher at Wilson's School in Polk County, MO. She later taught at Pleasant Hope Elementary and then substituted in the Springfield Public School system. Twyla made an impression on many children and enjoyed running into them years later and hearing how she had touched their lives and truly made a difference.
On June 30, 1950, she married Jerry Conn and they were blessed with two daughters, Lesa Haase and Lori Inman. They filled her life with laughter and love and maybe a little craziness.
In 2001 Twyla found love again when she married Dooley Hefner who preceded her in death. She and Dooley shared 21 happy years. They especially enjoyed time spent in Orange Beach, enjoying the sunshine while avoiding the cold Ozarks winters.
Twyla was a long-time member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a woman of faith and trusted her heavenly Father throughout her 96-year journey.
Twyla was a wonderful mother, a boy grandma, a loving aunt, and a friend to many, who will hold memories of special times spent with her.
She loved the beach, sunny afternoons sitting on her patio sipping sweet tea, picnics in the park, and being the first one to the dessert table.
She is survived by her daughters, Lesa Haase and her husband, John and Lori Inman, and her husband Allen. Twyla was a proud grandmother to four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew Mike Benton and his wife Cindy, her niece Tammy Brewer, and her husband Larry.
Twyla is also preceded in passing by her parents, Herschel and Jessie Vire, and her sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Ray Benton.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield, MO. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at Pleasant Hope Cemetery in Pleasant Hope, MO.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Jacob's Ladder, 2343 N. Delaware Springfield, MO,
(jacobsladdercare.org) in Twyla's memory.
Twyla will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. - DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory, Springfield, Missouri.
