Capt. Swisher was my captain in 2/2 Easy Company and I was in Iraq when he passed away. He was a great marine, one heck of a family man and father! Sender Fi Marine!!!

Tyler and I became good friends at TBS together. He was the finest young officer I have ever met. We last exchanged emails during his fateful deployment to Iraq while I was in the Horn of Africa, not long before his death. We hadn't kept in touch much before that, but the time and distancee between us hadn't changed our friendship. He will forever be remembered as a quintessential Marine and a tremendous young officer. More importantly, he will always be cherished and loved for the doting father, devoted husband, and loyal friend that he was. I miss you, brother. May God continue to watch over your loving wife and children. I pray they take solice in knowing you were such a great man, loved by so many. Semper Fidelis!

You was my captain in 2/2 Echo company and that day & that security patrol will always be etched in my mind. You and Benny will never be forgotten and I wish I could have done something more but none of us seen the ied beneath that dirt road that tragic day. The explosion and the crater it left haunts me to this very day, but I know that you both are in heaven smiling down on all of us. I try to do better and be a better person everyday because you don't get the chance to. Nobody really knows what we went through over there except for us, but you will never ever be forgotten Sir and you will always be my brother! You are missed every single day and you will never be forgotten. I see you in our children and it takes my breath away. They are so much like you- you would be extremely proud of the amazing young adults they have become. They have your wit, drive, and determination. They are strong, resilient, and kind. It's been 12.5 years since you died and many days I wake up and feel like it's all been a dream. You were my very best friend, Tyler. We had so many wonderful adventures and I hold each one tenderly in my heart. We became adults together, parents together, and found the delicate balance of autonomy and connection through our secure relationship. After being without you now for so long, I can now appreciate how rare a gift we had with our marriage. You were truly my partner in every way. Our physical love story ended, but our spirits will remain connected forever. "Right here"

I still tell stories of how a Lance Corporal (Me) aand a Captain in the Marines could push at each other on a daily basis. We pushed each other on humps (road marches) and in hand to hand to hand combat (Ive got the scar on my left hand to prove it) every chance we had. He was my CO in Japan and made training for a headquarters unit feel like the Marine Corps Should.

Capt Swisher, Tyler, I wanted to thank you for your dedication and service to the US and of course the Marine Corps. You have also brought together a bunch of "Yankee White" Marines, some whom have not talked with each other for years. I have reconnected with a lot of great friends and no doubt all because of you. I have laughed more in the past 3 months since "Always Brothers" became a reality. I'm getting daily updates from Michigan, Connecticut, Africa, Kentucky and on and on. I hope you are up there laughing as much as I have been. You are an inspiration and from the bottom of my heart, Thanks Brother.

I had the honor of serving with Swisher at Marine Barracks 8th and I and again at Camp David. He was a very athletic and motivated Marine. He was always working hard and when we were not working he still was. He was a good friend, Marine and i am sure a good father and husband. He will be truly missed. I am very proud of his sacrafice for our nation. He paid the ultimate price for freedom for all of us.

Several Marines that served with Tyler are coming together next summer (Aug, waiting on date from 8th & I)and holding a 100 mile memorial run in his honor. The run will start at his old post (Camp David) through MD-VA-DC to another one of his posts (8th & I) and then to his final resting place in Arlington; Section 60. Our website www.100milesforswisher.com will be up shortly. Tyler has also inspired us to form a 501(c)(3) comprised with many of the men that served aside him at Camp David and 8th & I. That website will be up soon at www.alwaysbrothers.org. If you are interested in helping, find Dean Allen Smith on Facebook.

What a wonderful man Tyler was. It is obvious from all the tributes that he was well loved and respected. I belong to Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers, and we send prayer shawls to family members of our fallen heroes who want them. This is just to show that Tyler has not been forgotten and that we are so grateful for his and your ultimate sacrifice. If we can send anyone in your family a prayer shawl, please contact me. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

August 8, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Tyler was a Marines Marine, it is true. I was with 1-161 IN and worked with Capt. Swisher at the Iraqi Convention Center. Even though we were in the Army, he went way out of his way to make sure we lived as good as we could. He made sure things ran smoothly, and they always did on his watch. He took his job seriously, no matter the task. Semper Fi Tyler!

Captain Tyler Swisher was a fine man and a superb Marine Officer. As retired Marines, Marty Lyman and I served as directors of the Baghdad Convention Center for most of 2004, and we had the privilege of working with Tyler on a daily basis.

His consistently positive outlook and "can do" attitude were real bright spots in a very challenging environment. Tyler was personally responsible for a major initiatives that considerably enhanced security for thousands of diplomats, our Coalition staff, and Iraqi citizens, who visited our building in pursuit of the democratic transition and the services that would help rebuild their lives.

Tyler constantly looked for ways to solve problems before they developed and often did so with great diplomacy under extremely difficult conditions. His tireless work was truly significant. We are all better for his professional contributions and personal sacrifice. Please accept my sincerest condolences to your family. Semper fi.

To the Swisher Family,

While visiting our son's gravesite last week (Lance Corporal Steven Szwydek), we had the opportunity to visit and pay our respects to Tyler. Please know that we understand the pain, sorrow, and pride you must feel. Steven also was in 2/2 WPNS company and died on 10/20/05. We were present at 2/2's homecoming and know the sorrow that the men felt by losing their brothers. May you find comfort in knowing that others care and are praying for you.

Stephanie, I hope this comes as comfort to you. Your husband was my very good friend and Captain. I worked with him at 4th Marines and I knew him well. We spoke of our kids and our wives and he loved you all very much. Our families have much in common. My oldest son is also my stepson, then comes my 6 year old boy and lastly I have a 2 year old girl. I tried to keep in contact as I returned to the states and when he left to Iraq. Eventually, I found him at Quantico, and again at Lejeune. I suprised him in his office before we all left and like old gossipers we spent the the hour talking of our families. I had asked him to re-enlist me in Okinawa once before and now that we both were in Iraq on the same base I asked him if he could do it again. He answered me the second time as he did the first, "I'd be honored to." The honor was all mine. He taught me well and I would follow your husband anywhere. I have you all in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you.

We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Yesterday, Today, Forever – Semper Fi - Marines!

Our sincerest gratitude for their bravery-

My husband, CPT Rizer, met Tyler in Iraq and told me how impressed he was with Tyler and his service. He enjoyed Tyler's friendship and hearing of his death was his hardest day. As a mother and wife of a deployed soldier, I am grieving with you. We've been praying for you and your children daily. There's nothing anyone can say to ease the pain but I hope it brings you comfort to know that we will remember Tyler always.

Stephanie and family: my heart breaks for you, no words can make it any better. Tyler was an amazing man from everything I have read about him, be proud. He did what his country asked him to and did it with honor and pride. I will keep you in my prayers. Love, Michelle (Joshua's grandmother)

We did not know Tyler but know his mother. If a funeral could be beautiful, then Tyler's was the most beautiful we have had the honor to attend. He exemplified a short life well-lived and we are deeply grateful for his service. We extend our deepest sympathy and love to those he has left behind.

Even though I didn't know Tyler, he will always have a special place in my heart. We have created a mural commemorating all of our "Fallen Soldiers." This is on display here at the One Way Farm Children's Home in Fairfield. We are proud to have had Tyler serve, to keep our country free. We will keep his memory alive by our mural. God speed to all his family and friends, and may God give you peace.

Your family thanks you for what you have given in the name of country and freedom. Your supreme sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Stephanie and the children will truly feel the emptiness of not having you to guide them but they stand tall and proud of what you have accomplished in your short years on earth. Be at rest my friend. Uncle Haden and Aunt Beth.

To the family of Capt Swisher I am deeply saddened by the loss of your precious HERO. I know how hard this is for your whole family because my HERO Grandson was riding with his Captain and two others this fateful day. October 21, 2005. You see my Grandson was Kenneth Butler and his Captain was Tyler Swisher. My heart is breaking and everytime I hear of another loss it is so hard to take. I pray for you and your family and hope that someday the pain will ease for us all. There is only one thing I know for sure and that is I will NEVER FORGET the sacrifice that they made for our freedom. Peace and love to you.Semper Fi !

I do not know Tyler or his family; however, I just now viewed his tribute on the Legacy.com "In Remembrance" Website. I felt so sad after seeing him with his family and was compelled to read more about him. What a wonderful young man he was! I hope his dying was not in vain but feel sick that he and so many other fine young men and women have had to sacrifice their precious lives. My heart goes out to all of these lost soldiers and their grieving families. Thank you for sharing with all of us who need to know!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Swisher family. I had known Tyler for over 9 years and have had the honor of spending time with his parents, brother, and sister, and his wife Stephanie. Tyler was one of the most sincere people I have ever met, and dedicated his life to his family and country. God be with all those he left behind.

"To the family of Captain Swisher: My wife and I had the honor of working near the Captain in Baghdad while we were working for CPA. Our hearts go out to you in this tremendous loss. Please know that his work and his sacrifice will always be remembered. We are better people for having known him and we thank the Lord for Marines like him. May He hold you close in this terrible time of sorrow."

While I never had the privilege of meeting Tyler, I am deeply saddened for his wife, Stephanie and her family. I consider Stephanie a good friend, although we only met a few months ago when we both began nursing school. From reading all of the stories about him and tributes to him, he sounds like a wonderful man, outstanding father and husband, and model citizen of these great United States. Stephanie, there aren't words to describe how sorry I am for your loss. I cannot imagine how deep your pain must lie, knowing that such an outstanding individual will not grace this world we live in any longer. I'm certain that he will be watching over your shoulder, keeping you company every step of your life, leading your decisions with his gentle touch. Please know that the entire nursing program at Coastal Carolina Community College - both Freshmen and Sophomores - are praying for you and your family, and want to do whatever we can to lighten your burden and make this time a little easier to get through for you and your family. A favorite verse I wanted to share with you is this: "We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and live." - Hebrews 10:39. Take care, Stephanie, and know that I'm here for you.

I am so sorry to hear of Tyler's passing. I worked with him on the Iraqi National Conference June, July and August 2004 in Baghdad at the Convention Center. The National Conference elected 150 members of the National Council--the interim legislature that was an integral part of Iraq's steps towards democracy and freedom leading to the elections this past January. He was thoughtful, conscientious, courteous, and fun--even in 120 heat. He made planning and securing the event a huge success--by troubleshooting issues like security and accomodations and working to bridge the differences between Iraqis and Americans. He was a key part of the team that made the Conference a success. He was the best representation of a Marine and of an American.

What struck me most was his dedication to his family which he revealed in my very first meeting with him at the Convention Center in his office. On his desk, he had pictures of his kids, and he proudly discussed each one and how bright and special they were and how much he missed them. He couldn't wait to get home to be with them. He was all about his family, the Corps, and his country. His death is a loss for us all and leaves us a little less whole.

My prayers and thoughts are with you at this tragic time.

Fondly,

Molly Wilkinson

Tyler was my neighbor for three years in Okinawa. He was a great Marine who has now made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom and democracy. He also was a wonderful husband, father and friend to all. My deepest condolences to all of the Swisher family.

Tyler was a very good friend of mine. We worked closely together in Baghdad, him in the Corps, me with the State Department. I was stunned to hear of his death and I particularly want to send my condolences to his family. In all the times I talked with Tyler, he never failed to bring up his family to me. What a tragic loss for them, the Corps and the United States.

I cannot express the deep, sincere sorrow I feel for you and your loss. My nephew was in a humvee just 2 vehicles behind Tyler. He was one of the last ones to talk to Tyler and had to retrieve him. I will pray for your family to have strength to get through this.

I am so very sorry.
