In Loving Memory of Tymiyn Charles-Shalem Samad
February 25, 2008 – June 10, 2025
On a snowy winter day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the world welcomed a force of nature-Tymiyn Charles-Shalem Samad-born on February 25, 2008, at Einstein Hospital. From the very beginning, Ty's presence was undeniable. He was energy, he was love, he was laughter. And on June 10, 2025, that incredible light left this world far too soon, leaving behind a space that can never be filled, but a spirit that will never be forgotten.
Ty lived in
El Reno, Oklahoma, but his personality reached far beyond any city or state. He attended El Reno Public Schools from kindergarten through high school, becoming a familiar face in the halls, classrooms, and hearts of so many. He also spent a few of his school years in the Philadelphia school system, forming connections and friendships in both places that shaped the vibrant, bold, unforgettable young man he was becoming.
He had the biggest personality-bold, passionate, fearless, and full of life. If Ty was in the room, you felt it. He could make you laugh until your sides hurt, challenge your thinking with a fierce debate (whether you were ready or not), and then turn around and give you the most genuine love you've ever felt. Ty was protective to his core and would stand up for the people he loved without hesitation. He didn't just say he loved you-he showed it.
He was the beloved son of Jacquelyn Waddington and Amiyn Samad, and a proud brother to Zyair Montgomery-Samad, Khysir Samad, Shaayaa Samad Jr., Sa'myiah Waddington-Samad, Jasmiyn Samad, and Ariyah Samad. His love for his siblings ran deep-they were his team, his built-in best friends, and his world.
Ty was a devoted grandson to the late Rita Azima Samad, who greeted him in heaven with open arms, and to his living grandparents: Lisa Hines, James Hines, Kenneth Waddington and Nicolette Waddington, who adored him endlessly. He was also deeply loved by his many aunts and uncles:, Abdul Mack, Zachary Waddington, Lemuel Anderson, Joshua Waddington, Shayaa Samad Sr., Justin Spencer, Brandon Waddington, and Najlaa Samad.
And then there were the cousins-so many cousins-who weren't just family, but brothers and sisters in every way that mattered. They laughed together, grew up together, got in trouble together, and loved each other fiercely. Ty's bond with them was unbreakable.
To know Ty was to experience someone unforgettable. He was funny, deeply caring, sometimes brutally honest, and always unapologetically himself. He had no filter, but he had no malice. Just truth. And love. So much love.
There are no words big enough to capture who Ty was or the space he leaves behind. But if you knew him-really knew him-you carry a piece of that light with you. And you always will.
" To know Ty was to Love Ty"
He will be forever remembered. Forever missed. And always and forever, so deeply, loved.
